The Bachelor's Heather: "My family and my life growing up is an intense situation."

Last night, we all witnessed the heart wrenching moment on The Bachelor Australia when Heather Maltman didn’t receive a rose from Sam Wood. Following a round of home visits with the remaining four bachelorettes, Heather believes the reason she didn’t make it into the final three was due to her absence of a family.

“My family and my life growing up is an intense situation,” she told News.com.au. “There’s a lot there to swallow and it’s pretty scary and it’s not the first time I’ve had a guy see that part of my life, be scared and walk away and that’s actually why I was really scared of it. But that’s nothing that Sam did, that’s my own fear.”

"Part of the reason why I didn't want to go on The Bachelor was because I was terrified about that part of my life and that the guy that they picked wouldn't be able to handle it and it would just blow up in my face and be a complete mess," Heather continued.

Speaking about the moments standing next to intruder Lana, waiting for her name to be called, the 29-year-old said, “I think it was like a cross between white noise and the realisation that my name hadn’t been called out and it was just the most bizarre, out of body experience."

When asked why she thinks Sam chose Lana over herself, Heather replied, “She’s probably able to give him more of the things he wants and at the end of the day ... if I can’t do all of that really full on, romancy stuff on TV as me, how would I go having a relationship that’s in the spotlight? And he needs to be with a girl who can do those things."

Heather's unexpected departure after being named the show's favourite since its early episodes, has left fans shocked and confused. Many have taken to social media to express their wish for Heather to be named the next Bachelorette, following Sam Frost whose season is just weeks away.

Many fans tweeted their support for the idea on Twitter and a Facebook page has also been set up in support. One user wrote on Twitter, 'Heather sounds like the beginning of The Bachelorette Season 2'. 'Heather Maltman for The Bachelorette 2016' added another.
