By now you will be aware of the rumours that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston are dating.

Many have been shocked by the thought of 26-year-old T-Swift moving on from her DJ ex Calvin Harris so damn fast. (Good on her, I say. Two weeks is definitely long enough for a rebound.)

But it was written in the internet stars. TWO YEARS AGO.

A fan fiction story has been quietly lurking on the web since December 2014 about a romance blossoming between the two. Spooky? Yes. Awesome? Absolutely.

Writer and secret wizard Jennifer Stanley even coined the couple's name, 'Hiddleswift', (which sounds suspiciously Hogwarts-like).

Even more trippy: she tipped that sparks would begin flying when they met at the Met Gala. And yes, Tay and Tom bumped into each other for the first time at the swish event last month.

Written under the name 'jenniiichristine' on An Archive Of Our Own, the summary for the 12,300-word piece reads: “Taylor Swift x Tom Hiddleston (A.K.A. “Hiddleswift” as my friends and I call this pairing), one-shot smut, split into five chapters... Tom and Taylor bump into each other in New York at the Met Gala in 2015, and who knows where the night just might take these two."

In the author's notes, she wrote: "I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this pairing, but I don't care. I'm a huge fan of Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift as individuals, and I'd love it if they got together in real life. Alas, what's the likelihood of that ever happening?"

Obviously she had no idea of the spell she had just cast.

And upon finding out he loved '80s music, singing and dancing, she realised the Tom x Tay combo would be a "match made in heaven".

If there's one thing you've learnt today, let it be this: Never doubt the power of fan fiction. Ms Stanley certainly won't.
