We don't talk enough about how scary marriage can be. Not because of the party planning or the vows, but because it's one of the biggest bets you can make — that the person you love today will still be the right person years from now. It's a choice that feels scarily permanent. 

Everyone's had that small, spiralling thought at some point: What if I picked wrong? What if they change? What if our lives don't fit together? It's not being negative. It's the quiet universal fear that love comes with fine print we'll only notice when it's too late to return it.

And that is exactly what Netflix's new horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is about. Cold feet in its most nightmarish form. Sure, it's got the creepy mansion and the snowstorm and the unsettling future in-laws — but the real horror is knowing you might have married the wrong person. No ghosts or monsters required.

The show's creator Haley Z. Boston has said that the series was actually born from that exact, deeply relatable fear. 

"When I was a kid, my mom said to me, 'You can do whatever you want in your life, just make sure you don't marry the wrong person.' That's a lot of pressure to put on a child," she told Entertainment Weekly. "So I sort of grew up with this thing looming over me where I knew that it was possible to have lifelong partnership and the fear of marrying the wrong person was such a presence."

"So as I was approaching the age of 30 and everyone's getting married, it just felt so natural to me that you would explore the fear of commitment and the fear of marrying the wrong person through a horror lens," Boston said.

The show takes the sweetest week of your life — the final countdown to "I do" — and turns it into a psychological meltdown. Set in a remote family estate, it follows Rachel and Nicky as they prepare to walk down the aisle. The setting is picture-perfect until, well… it isn't.

Whispers in the hall, strange footprints in the snow, and a future mother-in-law who seems just a little too invested in the ceremony. Rachel, already superstitious to the bone, starts to see signs everywhere — that maybe her happily ever after comes with something much more frightening.

It's very Ready or Not-coded, if you ask me. There's something about weddings and horror that just go so well together. 

Produced by the Duffer Brothers — yes, of Stranger Things royalty — the series blends supernatural panic with cold, psychological dread. And it's very, very good. Coming from a certified scaredy-cat, this show is truly terrifying. There's something about the lighting, the camerawork, and of course, the acting that creates a very unsettling atmosphere. 

The cinematography doubles down on unease — candlelit halls, snowy silence, and that telltale sense of something coming for you, just out of frame.

But it's the casting that really drives it home. Not that I had any doubts before, but Camila Morrone really is a rising star. Known for her roles in Daisy Jones & The Six, Marmalade, and Deathwish, Morrone is incredible as Rachel — sharp, vulnerable, and quietly unravelling.

Adam DiMarco plays Nicky, the groom, and the rest of the supporting cast features several veteran actors playing Nicky's unsettling family members. Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as the matriarch Victoria Cunningham, and Ted Levine, known for The Silence of the Lambs, plays Boris Cunningham. Other key members include Gus Birney, Jeff Wilbusch, and Karla Crome. The cast is rounded out by Zlatko Burić and Sawyer Fraser, who both appear in recurring roles throughout the eight episodes.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is a horror movie that asks what it really means to commit. To love someone enough to trust them completely — or to fear them (or their family) more than anything else. Being a bride is supposed to be the happiest time of your life. Here, it's hell on earth.
