Textured outerwear is one of the biggest trends to hit the market this winter.

And while a faux fur coat will always be major, there's a super wearable alternative I'd like to draw your attention to: The Teddy Jacket.

Speaking of cosy layers, Leigh Campbell has a handy scarf hack for you. Post continues below.

Otherwise referred to as a "sherpa" or "borg" jacket, it's basically any outerwear piece that looks like the fleecy inside lining of your coat has been flipped and worn on the outside.

For me, a teddy jacket is always the answer when it's cold, I'm heading out, and I don't know what to wear. I find this style perfectly fills that gap between a casual and dressy jacket; it instantly makes any outfit look more polished.

A cream style I found at Unreal Fur many years ago has seen me through five winters and counting, while an oversized black teddy coat I bought at Zara in 2019 is still my most-worn outer layer through the cooler months.

So while I'm here to convince you of their versatility, I feel fully justified in treating myself to a new one. And I'm not short on options.

Lots of the latest styles have a sporty edge to them thanks to details like funnel necks, zips and waist ties. Consider these the upgrade to that parka or puffer you've worn to death.

You can also opt for a more classic cut, like a cropped bouclé jacket with or without a collar — perfect for wearing with jeans and flats.

The beauty of this style is that it makes a chic statement even paired with the most basic pieces, so you don't have to overthink your outfit: just let the jacket do the heavy lifting.
