A teenager celebrating schoolies on the Gold Coast has been lucky to survive after falling two storeys from a balcony.
The 17-year-old fell from an apartment on Cypress Avenue at Surfers Paradise around 3:00am on Thursday, while leaning over a balcony.
Senior Sergeant Angelique Maloney said the teenager was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with a suspected fractured pelvis.
“We believe he has dropped an item of property and he has leant over — it’s landed on a ledge — and he’s leant over to collect it and he has fallen the two floors,” she said.
The teen landed on a ground floor balcony.
Police said the incident was a reminder that school leavers should act responsibly, particularly on balconies.
“They’ve been warned multiple times, but if they could stay away from their balconies, particularly when they’re affected by alcohol or drugs,” Ms Maloney said.
