Mouth-watering snack ideas for all the savoury lovers out there.

We all fall into what I like to call ‘snack ruts’. You know those weeks and months when you get into the habit of eating exactly the same thing every morning and afternoon at snack time? And no matter how delicious those snacks are, it can get boring and leave you reaching for unhealthy foods.

But that will never happen again, starting from now.

I love savoury snacks just as much as the rest of them. I’m one of those people who love savoury as much as sweet and I’m of Italian heritage so I have some of THE BEST savoury snack ideas you will ever hear about.

Okay savoury lovers, here we go….

1. Cheese and olives.

I love to eat cheese and olives, especially those big green olives stuffed with fetta. What brilliant mind thought that up?

2. Frittata.

This is a baked egg dish that you can cut into individual serving sizes and it makes for a very filling and healthy snack.

3. Toast topped with The Laughing Cow cheese, tomato, avocado and hummus.

To make toast filling and healthy you have to skip the butter and jam (sometimes) and top it with all the good stuff. I love creamy Laughing Cow cheese, tomato, avocado and hummus combo but if that’s a bit too much for you, just choose one or two of these toppings, and spread them on the healthiest toasted bread you can find.

4. Salty crackers and hummus.

Hummus is going to make more than one appearance in this list because it is awesome. You can buy it or make it yourself and serve it with salty crackers or vegetable sticks.

5. Antipasti plate.

This is taking cheese and olives one step further. You might make a small plate of two kinds of cheese (I prefer brie and The Laughing Cow cheese), a couple of types of olives, some salami or deli meat and crunchy bread.

6. Vegetable soup.

Whenever I have some vegies I need to use up I throw them all in a pot, add water, a little salt and a dash of olive oil and boil until tender, then puree it and freeze it into single serves. So simple.

7. Chicken or turkey dipped in hummus.

I got this idea from an interview with an American reality TV star who is gorgeous and said she eats this for a snack almost every day. If it’s good enough for her…

8. Tinned sardines and crackers.

You haven’t tried tinned sardines? You haven’t lived. My favourite ones are the ones with tomato sauce. I eat them on top of rice crackers. Hello Omega 3-inspired brain function.

9. The Laughing Cow cheese with crackers or vegetables.

For an awesome range of cheese snacks grab The Laughing Cow cheese in plain, or their light variety. So delicious with crackers and vegetables like celery and carrot sticks.

10. A handful of nuts and dried fruit.

Sometimes when I’m racing around I only have time to grab something and those are the days I normally eat a handful of almonds and dried apricots or apple.

11. Pickled vegetables and cheese.

Okay here’s my Italian coming out again. You can pickle your own vegies (and lots of foodies talk about it these days, but Italians thought of it first) or you can buy jars of them in most supermarkets. They are so healthy and go very well with any cheese snack.

12. Tuna salad.

I always buy tuna packed in olive oil and make a quick salad by adding chopped vegetables like carrots and celery and then adding some four bean mix. Or just add some tomatoes and sliced onions with a splash of red wine vinegar (this is my dad’s recipe – you can thank him later).
