'A shopping centre Santa promised my son a present I can't afford to buy him.'

A British mother is outraged after a shopping centre Santa promised her seven-year-old son a £400 ($685 AUD) gift.

Linda Belnik, a building company director, visited the Westfield shopping center in West London to visit Santa with her seven-year-old son Joshua, and five-year-old twins Jasmine and Jasper.

While he was perched on Santa’s lap, Joshua was apparently promised the Star Wars Death Star Lego set.

AND THE STAR WARS DEATH STAR LEGO SET IS VERY EXPENSIVE, SANTA.

Joshua, being seven years old, has not forgotten what Santa promised him and is now posing with a disgruntled pout for Metro UK online.

His mum Linda has since had to pry Joshua’s vice-like grip from the anticipated Star Wars Death Star Lego set, and explain to him that Santa is a silly old bugger who’s losing his marbles.

“I had already told Joshua he is not getting the present, so that’s why it’s even more upsetting as he now truly believes he is,” she says.

“He’s walking around saying Santa said he will get the toy.”

Nice one, Joshua. You have this NAILED.

“As a parent, I had made the decision he would not be getting the set as it costs so much. It’s put me in a really awkward position,” Linda continued. (Post continues after gallery.)

“Santa has no idea what anyone’s financial situation is. It is wrong he’s promising toys.”

Westfield insists the Santa has more than 20 years’ experience in the role, and is trained not to agree to or suggest specific presents.

The Westfield group has since offered Linda a family ice-skating package for the whole family, but she isn’t convinced.

“‘It doesn’t help explain to my son why he’s not got his present on Christmas Day.”

RIP Christmas Spirit.
