Samantha Harris was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car when it span out of control, hit another vehicle and killed a 78-year-old man.
The 23-year-old Australian supermodel has just watched her fiance Luke Hunt hear his sentence of four years for dangerous driving causing death.
Hunt, 28, will serve at least two years in jail for hitting and killing 78-year-old Kenneth Lay with his car in 2012.
The crash took place on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, with Harris in the car at the time. The court heard that Hunt was driving 95km/hr in a 60km/hr zone when he crashed into Mr Lay’s car, causing it to spin and hit a tree. He died in hospital after the accident.
Hunt pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death but did not offer an explanation as to why he was speeding or driving so recklessly.
Judge Colin Charteris says he hopes this case will send a message to other reckless drivers. Mr Lay was a safe driver with 16 grandchildren and seven children, who should still be alive and with his family.
