60 Minutes reporter Tara Brown to separate from husband.

It has been a big couple of weeks for high profile splits, hasn’t it?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, and Lindy and Michael Klim have now sadly been joined by 60 Minutes journalist and much loved television host, Tara Brown.

The media world is in shock to hear that Tara and her husband, television executive John McAvoy, have ended their marriage after 16 years together.

But according to reports from Woman’s Day, it has been a split that was a long time coming.

“Sources close to the couple say cracks started appearing in their union well before Tara was imprisoned – along with three colleagues – in Beirut on charges of kidnapping two Lebanese/Australian children,” wrote Woman’s Day.

“While John was present during tense meetings between family and Nine staff as negotiations dragged on to release Tara and her crew, tellingly, there was no sign of him at Sydney Airport when she finally returned home from her two-week ordeal.”

Tara and John have two young children together, seven-year-old Jack and five-year-old Tom.

It has been a tumultuous year for the 48-year-old journalist, with the 60 Minutes gaffe in Lebanon seeing Tara suffer severe criticism for her role in the botched recovery mission for Sally Faulkner's children.

Brown and Faulkner were released after an allegedly multi-million dollar deal was reached.

At the time, Brown said that her first task post-release was to call her husband. "I was ordered to call home straight away," she told Channel 9.
