Here's your first listen of S-Town, Serial's spin-off true crime podcast.

The team behind Serial – Sarah Koeing, Julie Synder and Ira Glass – have just dropped a preview of their first true crime spin-off podcast, S-Town.

S-Town, which has been in production for the past three years, will see the Serial team return to their true crime roots.

The podcast will tell the story of a murder mystery in a small town in Alabama.

The team came up with the idea for the spin-off when a local man asked his friend, This American Life producer Brian Reed, to investigate the “son of wealthy family who [had] supposedly been bragging that he got away murder”.

“When someone else ends up dead, the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life.”

Reed will be the host of the new podcast, with Koeing and Glass saying that it’s not like anything we’ve heard before.

You can listen to the sneak peek here.

“This story takes so many unexpected turns. Every episode is a new surprise. And the story has this feeling and mood that’s different from anything else we’ve done,” Ira Glass said in a statement.

“I don’t think people have heard of a show like this.”

Emily Webb goes inside Australia’s most chilling murders on the Nitty Gritty Committee.

Every episode of S-Town will be released on March 28.

Pencil it in, guys.
