A journalist was sex-shamed by a troll who shared her nude pictures online. So she took the power back.

A Scottish journalist has taken to Twitter to find the individual who posted nude photographs of her online.

While appearing to be holidaying in Venice, Vonny Moyes found private images of her circulating on social media sites that were taken years ago.

In the first tweet of a series refusing to be sex-shamed from the pictures, Moyes named the offender, also tagging his social media account.

In her tweets, the journalist for the newspaper, The National, refused to let the images become a tool of sex-shaming.

“Believe it or not, like everyone else I’m naked under my clothes. Not ashamed of my body, or for being sexual. Sex is natural,” she wrote.

Speaking to Mashable, Moyes says this isn’t the first time she has been subject to sexual and gendered attacks.

“I’ve been subject to quite a sustained trolling over the last year, from lots of different people, loosely connected through their shared hatred of the paper,” she said.

“They don’t particularly engage with the subject matter of my article, and instead jump for the ad hominem, which is often gendered and vitriolic.”

Moyes isn’t certain about how the images first entered the public arena, but discovered them when she had been mentioned in a tweet.

“He said he’d taken them from (the free porn video site) XHamster, where they have clearly been posted – not by me.”

She also suspected there have been “Reddit involvement” in the initial uploading and distribution of the images.

In a surprising move, Moyes chose to share one of the images, ending much of the speculation regarding them.

She said that she had a number of nude photos taken of her before, even asking as a “working girl” and “fetish modelling”.

Moyes was never ashamed of her previous jobs, however, when they were used to criticise her writing they changed in meaning.

Unsurprisingly, Moyes has been slammed online for taking the photos of the images, with commenters saying she should expect this to happen.
