About a month ago, I was mindlessly scrolling through Instagram when something stopped me cold.

The thing? A jacket. Specifically, a red funnel neck windbreaker.

As is the law of the universe, once I saw that first red funnel neck windbreaker, I started noticing them everywhere. On the street. At the office. In paid ads following me around the internet.

The ultimate winter statement piece | Nothing To Wear

Almost every stylish woman I follow on socials has posted a fit check styling a red bomber jacket, sports jacket or windbreaker.

Some are pairing red jackets with denim and a classic white T-shirt (and loafers or boots for autumn and winter, of course). Others are styling theirs down for daytime with sneakers or activewear, or up for evening with slip skirts, lace and heels.

Here are just a few of my favourite fashion creators sitting in my Instagram saved folder right now.

Obviously, I went out and bought one immediately like the basic b*tch I am.

I picked up the Glassons Funnel Neck Windbreaker, $59.99, literally the second I saw it drop, and I've worn it constantly ever since. And just this week, fashion editor Tamara Holland tried on and bought the Target Lily Loves Australian Cotton Blend Parker Jacket, $60.

The pop of red makes every outfit look more intentional. It's a light layer, meaning you can style it on its own like a top, or over a long-sleeve shirt as a jacket.

It even works over tights or with trackies for brunch or walks.

I also love how you can style funnel neck windbreakers worn open, zipped and buttoned up all the way, or just at the neck if you're feeling fashionable.

Oh, and it's also a compliment magnet. I'm stopped for the details every time I'm wearing mine.

There's good news and bad news.

The bad news? Many of the trending funnel neck jackets in this specific shade of red from budget, mid-range and bougie brands — Massimo Dutti, Decjuba, Zara, H&M, Glassons, Arket and Lovers and Friends, Levi's — have or are about to sell out.
