Man charged with murder of Sydney girl Quanne Diec, who disappeared in 1998.

A man has been charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl who disappeared 18 years ago in Sydney’s west.

Police say Quanne Diec went missing on her way to school from her Granville home in 1998.

Officers said a 49-year-old man handed himself into police yesterday and has now been charged with murder.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear before Central Local Court today.

In 1999, the NSW Government increased the reward being offered for information leading to the location of Quanne, from $100,000 to $200,000.

At the time, police said her disappearance was out of character.

Her disappearance was not reported to police until 10 hours after she was last seen because her school did not report her non-attendance, believing she was at home sick.
