Princess Mary has talked about her late mother in a touching interview with Women’s Weekly.
The Crown Princess of Denmark is on the November cover of Australian Women’s Weekly talking about her late mother, who died when Mary was just 25.
The 42-year-old lost her mother 17 years ago after a shocking complication from heart surgery. Her mother, Henrietta Clark Donaldson, was only 55.
"I would love to have more time with my mother," Mary said.
"She is part of me."
Mary continues, "Mum definitely taught me to be independent and to trust myself, and believe in myself and do whatever you set your mind to do. If you go after it, you can achieve it."
The Princess has four children - Christian, 9, Isabella, 7, and twins Vincent and Josephine, 3. Born in Tasmania, Mary famously met Denmark's Prince Frederik during the 2000 Olympics, held in Sydney.
Princess Mary is now an advocate for women's rights and is set to fly to South Africa soon to raise awareness for the effects HIV has on women.
She refuses to stop or even slow down in the fight for women's equality, especially now with two young daughters of her own.
"It's about giving them a secure happy environment where they can develop and grow and we can be together as a family."
