Presents for the men in your life: Mission accomplished.

Gift buying for men, sorted.

Scientists can walk on the moon, yet no one has made ground on the big mystery much closer to home: what to buy a man.

In theory, of course, it shouldn’t be difficult. Then again, nor should putting a pair of socks in the washing machine and getting a complete pair back out again. But we know that ends oddly – and so can the gifts.

I bought my granddad so many hair combs over the years that my mum had to politely tell me to stop, as the poor man didn’t have enough hair left to actually use one.

An entire cupboard in my parents’ house is devoted to shower gel, the default ‘man’ gift. Because how can any man not be thrilled to receive something as unique, thoughtful and surprising as a shower gel?

In fact, the reason why men are so comfortable wearing jewellery these days is probably because we ran out of gift ideas and just bought them what we wanted to receive ourselves.

Just as an FYI, this post is an advertorial for SodaStream. But all opinions expressed by the author are 100% authentic and written in their own words.

But I have a solution. And, thankfully, it comes as I’m about to enter what I call the ‘gift gauntlet’ – a two-month period that encompasses Christmas, Valentine’s Day and my partner’s birthday, and is basically one long brain ache.

“We should get a SodaStream,” my boyfriend casually announced last week.

SodaStream PLAY Drinks Maker.

Imagine a chorus of hallelujahs, combined with the same level of joy you’d experience if you unexpectedly found a $50 note in your pocket.

Yes! Yes, yes, yes. It was a stroke of genius. My boyfriend is obsessed with sparkling water, and obsessed with moaning about the sugar levels of shop-bought fizzy drinks – and the SodaStream covers both bases. You can create your own soda water, plus healthier versions of the flavoured sparkling waters you see in shops.

It’s probably the closest he’s ever going to get to mixing drinks in the style of Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

It would also solve the problem of our recycling bin constantly overflowing with empty plastic water bottles.

And he actually wants one.

The best bit is that there are over 40 flavours, including many sugar-free varieties – ranging from classic cola, fruit (mmm, pink lemonade), even cocktails. Is it too early for a mojito??

Stock up at participating leading retailers across Australia and with the SodaStream PLAY Drinks Maker and the Naturals Caps flavours, you have several gift ideas covered.

None of which is a shower gel.
