Naomi Campbell and Charles Taylor

1. Don’t accept “dirty looking stones” from former dictators in the middle of the night. It can really inconvenience your social life.

Naomi Campbell did and now, instead of sipping champagne on a yacht sailing the Cote D’Azur, she is testifying in a war crimes trial against former Liberan President Charles Taylor in The Hague.

The fiery supermodel was “allegedly” seen flirting with Taylor at a dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela in 1997 and was later woken in the middle of the night and given a small pouch of “dirty looking stones”. These “stones” turned out to be blood diamonds that supposedly came from Taylor and could be the link that ties him to horrendous war crimes in Libera. Campbell denies knowing who gave them to her and claims she handed them to a charity to “do something with them”.

In true supermodel style, while testifying Naomi said “I didn’t really want to be here. I just want to get this over with and get on with my life, this is a big inconvenience for me.”  Hey Naomi, here’s an idea: choose who you flirt with more wisely and you won’t end up with a bad hairdo giving evidence in a war crimes court!

2. 66 year old rock stars are still quite fertile

Rod Stewart and his 39-year-old wife announced this week they are expecting their second child together, bringing the total children for Rod to 8, ranging in age from 4-46. The couple have made no secret of the fact they wanted more children, so much so that during a recent interview Rod said “As a parent of a new child, I’ll maybe only be around for 25 years at most. But it will be a happy, loving 25 years.” Warm thoughts indeed!

3. Romance is still alive

On the back of the Californian Supreme Court ruling that “Prop 8” is unconstitutional Portia De Rossi has legally applied to change her name to that of her wife Ellen DeGeneres. Her new legal name will be Portia Lee James DeGeneres. When I heard this I had love hearts bursting all around me and violins playing. I just love these two.

BUT…What is Prop 8 I hear you are asking? Well, Proposition 8 is a clause in the Californian Constitution that declares marriage is only legal between a man and a woman. Many a celebrity has featured in campaigns over the years trying to drum up support to reject Prop 8. Portia and Ellen famously married back in 2008 during the brief time that gay marriage was legal. This new ruling will hopefully once again give same sex couples in the state of California the chance to marry.

When the victory was announced twitter had a virtual party with celebrities rejoicing, Ellen herself tweeted “This just in: Equality won!”. Even the Govinator Arnold Schwarzenegger weighed in tweeting“This decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves” and what celebration would be complete without an appearance from Paris Hilton, even she shared her thoughts, “What a huge historical day for equal rights in this country! They finally overturned Prop 8! There shouldn’t be a law on true love. : )”

4. If you are a music celeb who has been laying low of late, this is your chance for a comeback of epic proportions as a judge on American Idol

The revolving door of judges on American Idol continues now that Simon Cowell is moving on to start up the X factor and Ellen DeGeneres quit after she revealed she didn’t like hurting people’s feelings. Producers are also rumoured to be saying adios to the two remaining judges Randy Jackson and Kara Dioguardi to bring in a whole new panel that will hopefully shock some life back into the show. There have been wild rumours that J.Lo was close to signing a deal… that was until the star unleashed her diva roar and pissed off producers with her demands, she is now out and they are again looking elsewhere. Other names that have are being thrown about include Mariah Carey, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Elton John, Justin Timberlake (that sent my heart racing), Harry Connick Jr, Shania Twain, Lady Gaga and even Her Serene Highness, Madonna, pretty much anyone with some kind of link to the music industry is in with a chance right now. $10 says Vanilla Ice is at home right now getting ready for his audition.
