pregnancy

This dad-to-be staged his own 'maternity' photo shoot. And the pictures are too brilliant.

When one couple in the US discovered they were expecting, there was no ultrasound polaroid held between them in a social media announcement. No Beyonce-esque flower throne. No little shoes between big shoes with the sign “soon we’ll be three”.

They did something completely different and, understandably, it’s gone viral.

Father-to-be Nick Roberts from Boston, Massachusetts, decided with his photographer friend Stephen Cwiok to do a ‘paternity’ photo shoot instead.

The woman who was actually expecting, Brianna Magee, went along for the ride and the results are hilarious.

They had to make it real, of course, so Nick decided to eat several McDonald's double cheeseburgers with fries and created a food baby instead.

Same, same but hopelessly different.

Still, Nick says it brought him "closer" to the pregnancy and surely that's the point, right?

"If I'm being completely honest, the setting, the occasion, the awful cramps from the double cheeseburgers, it all brought me so much closer to the pregnancy," he posted to Facebook alongside the gallery.

"Now, I'll never know what being in labor feels like, but I feel in my heart it can't be too far away from eating A LOT of fast food. I'm truly blessed to have had this eye-opening experience."

Speaking to Mamamia, Nick said the experience was a strange one and that both he and Stephen are happily surprised by the public's response - their Facebook gallery has received hundreds of thousands of comments, shares and reactions.

"It felt very strange," Nick told Mamamia. "But like nothing else in the world!"

"The most surprising thing about it all is how much everyone loves it and thinks it's funny. I think it's great. Stephen and I love making people laugh so this was amazing for both of us."

Brianna has given birth since the photoshoot and, as for Nick's little bub-to-be, we can only hope he's enjoying the pregnancy 'glow' and that people are offering up their seat as he rides the bus.

It's only fair, right?
