The Academy Awards have come and gone for another year, wrapping up awards season in a stylish-albeit-messy silk bow. 

So what did you miss at the 2026 Oscars? Ugh, a lot.

This was an award show to be experienced in all its chaotic glory.

As an entertainment writer, watching the Oscars every year is my favourite ritual — tbh, it's a sacred experience. Along with enjoying the show itself, I am navigating multiple group chats as we all debrief on what the hell just happened. It really is a full-time job. 

Thankfully, I had a delish beverage in hand to stay refreshed and focused as I navigated the flurry of notifications. So come along, as I deep-dive into the most talked-about group-chat-shattering moments from the 2026 Oscars. Because let's be real: the awards are over, but the real drama is just beginning on TikTok and between friends. 

The red carpet looks that my group chat couldn't stop talking about.

Firstly, can we have a minute for Teyana Taylor, who has given us a flawless awards season fashion debut? Perfect, no notes. Her feathered dress at the Oscars was no exception — she is spectacular.

Emma Stone looked like an ethereal princess, but the group chat was split on whether this was her best look. It was gorg, but maybe not giving high-Oscars glam?? Idk. I'm conflicted.

But one thing we could all agree on is that Rose Byrne has never looked more sensational. She might have lost out to Jessie Buckley (who also looked fab!) in her category, but she won the best look of the Oscars. Very slay. No notes.

I will give a quick shoutout to Zendaya too — sure, she skipped the red carpet (ugh, she's so cool) but appeared alongside Robert Pattinson in a BEYOND BEAUTIFUL chocolate gown. That woman!

The loosest speech of the night.

She started with a maniacal cackle (very Gladys from Weapons coded) and Amy Madigan's winning speech for Best Supporting Actress only got weirder from there.

"This is great!" the actress stated between muffled laughs. "I've got this little gold guy!"

She continued, "I was in the shower last night trying to think of something to say, as I was shaving my legs, and… I've got pants on."

Pure chaos. Amy Madigan, never change.

Two musical performances gave us BIG feelings. 

Two of the nights' performances sent goosebumps down our bodies. Firstly, there was the performance of 'I Lied to You' from Sinners, a stunning star-studded tribute to the history of Black music.

Mirroring a scene in the film, the stage was transformed into a juke joint that fused the past and present, and was led by the film's star Miles Caton and legendary songwriter Raphael Saadiq. CHILLS.

Then came the stars of the global Netflix hit K-Pop Demon Hunters. EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami came together to perform their mega-hit 'Golden'.

THE GROUP CHAT WENT OFF. As did the celebs in the audience, who were bopping along and waving little light sticks.

As if this couldn't get sweeter, Sinners took home four Oscars and 'Golden' won the Oscar for Best Original Song, making history as the first K-pop song to ever win in this category. My heart!!

The funniest moment of the Oscars.

The most hysterical part of the awards had to be when the cast Bridesmaids reunited to read some faux-letters from the famous crowd.

"You ladies look extremely beautiful tonight. You're all aging well. Signed Stellan Skarsgård," Maya Rudolph blankly read.

But the funniest moment came from Rose Byrne, who read a letter supposedly from Leonardo DiCaprio. "Rose, can you please stop looking at me? The eye contact is too much. I'm thinking of leaving. I'm very uncomfortable. Sincerely, Leonardo DiCaprio."

Rose then read her own letter to Leo, telling him: "I have been staring at you. I thought you were somebody else."

I almost spat out my Posca when Leo playfully pointed at Rose with a sly grin in response. As TikTok has eagerly agreed, the man has still got it!

The biggest shock of the night.

It really wasn't Timothée Chalamet's night. Not only did he miss out on the Best Actor gong, his film Marty Supreme was surprisingly snubbed.

Despite entering the night as a favourite with nine nominations, the A24 film didn't claim a single shiny statue.

Some of my group chat were struggling with this choice because let's be real: Marty Supreme is a goddamn delight!

While the film being snubbed is one story, many have speculated over whether Chalamet's chaotic awards campaign had negatively impacted his chance — especially that awkward comment he made dismissing the opera and ballet.

And yep, host Conan O'Brien referenced that mess in his opening monologue.

The win that made the whole group chat sob uncontrollably. 

While the winners for Best Picture and Best Actress were hotly anticipated to be handed out to One Battle After Another and Jessie Buckley, respectively, the Best Actor winner was anyone's guess.

After all, throughout awards season, the awards have been shared between Michael B. Jordan, Timothée Chalamet and Robert Aramayo, who took home the BAFTA.

But at the penultimate Oscars, Michael B. Jordan took home the big award for his career-defining dual performance as twins Smoke and Stack in Sinners.

And oh wow, there wasn't a dry eye in sight when he gave his emotional acceptance speech.

"I stand here because of the people that came before me: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Fox, Forest Whittaker, Will Smith," Jordan stated.

"To be amongst those giants… amongst my ancestors, amongst my guys. Thank you everybody in this room, and everybody at home for supporting me over my career. I feel it… you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping betting on me."

SOBBING.

And just like that, another Oscars has come to an end. Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened!
