The US police officer who shot Australian woman Justine Damond offers condolences to her family.

The Minnesota police officer who shot and killed Australian woman Justine Damond has offered condolences to her family.

Mohamed Noor has been identified as the Minneapolis officer who fired the shots that killed Ms Damond. Damond’s fiance Don Damond said she had called 911 Saturday night to report a possible sexual assault in the alley behind their house.

Soon after, she was shot.

In a statement to WCCO-TV, the Somali-American officer says he came to the US at a young age and appreciated the opportunities he was given.

He said he considers being a police officer a calling, and became one to serve and protect the community.
