It is officially happening, people. Dust off your hockey jerseys and brace yourselves, because Briar University's resident playboy is about to meet his match.

It has just been confirmed that Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes will be taking centre stage as the leads of Off Campus Season 2. Praise be.

Now, I need to take a quick pause to address something. I recently interviewed the cast and asked them this exact question. The response? They looked me dead in the eye and lied straight to my face. The audacity.

Stephen Kalyn, our onscreen Dean, gave me the ultimate poker face when I asked about his chemistry with Mika Abdalla, who plays Allie, and whether they were going to be leading the next season.

"I really don't know because we haven't really done anything that's been… you know. But hey if we get to that part of the series, I'm looking forward to it," Stephen said. "And those snippets [in the trailer], where I'm looking [at Allie] I could be looking at anything. I could looking at fruit. I could be looking at Jalen."

Fruit, Stephen? Jalen? Nice try, but we see right through you. You were looking at Allie, and now we have the green light to talk about exactly what is going to go down.

Now, we all know Off Campus is based on the book series by Elle Kennedy.

While the second book is actually about John Logan and his love interest, Grace Ivers (who has also been cast to appear in the new season) the second season's main focus will switch the book order and focus on Allie and Dean.

Consider this your massive spoiler warning as we break down what happens in their story in the books.

If you watched Season 1, you know the groundwork for this romance has already been laid. We've already seen a small part of Allie and Dean's story.

In their book, entitled The Score, Dean Di Laurentis is essentially living the ultimate college dream. He's a gorgeous, charismatic hockey star who has never met a woman capable of resisting his charms. He plans on coasting through a completely carefree, single senior year.

Enter Allie Hayes. She's a fellow senior who is just trying to distract herself from a devastating breakup by having some casual fun. They hook up, expecting it to be a standard, one-and-done encounter.

Except, it isn't.

Dean is totally thrown off his axis — unlike his endless string of past flings, he can't get Allie out of his head. He becomes utterly determined to turn their one-night stand into something real.

Allie eventually gives in to his charm, falls for him, and the two become an exclusive couple. But just as they enter the blissful honeymoon phase, life completely derails for Dean.

He is hit with an onslaught of heavy personal challenges, including drama involving an ex-girlfriend and, most devastatingly, the sudden death of his longtime best friend, Beau Maxwell.

Unable to process the grief, Dean spirals into a dark place, turning to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. As his life fractures, he stops caring about his friends, his relationship, and his beloved sport. After failing a drug test, he gets booted off the hockey team, and a heartbroken Allie officially breaks up with him.

Having lost practically everything, Dean takes a job coaching youth hockey. Connecting with the kids changes everything. It pulls him out of his deep rut and makes him realise that his true passion isn't the law career he was aiming for — it's coaching.

As he begins to put his life back together, he makes amends with the people he hurt, including Allie. While they don't instantly jump back into a relationship at the end of The Score, they share a bittersweet realisation: both of them have independently decided to move to New York after graduation.

If you're worried that Season 2 will leave you entirely heartbroken, don't panic. The final book in Elle Kennedy's series, The Legacy, gives us the ultimate update on where they end up.

Fast-forward a bit, and Dean and Allie are still going strong. The only hitch? Allie is a little hesitant to take the plunge into marriage. However, after a little soul-searching, she realises Dean is her absolute forever, and she ends up popping the question to him.

The two tie the knot and eventually welcome three kids into their lives, cementing their place as one of Briar University's most legendary couples.

Get ready, because Season 2 is going to be an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. Bring on the drama.
