Grab your oversized hockey jerseys and get comfortable, because the Off Campus TV adaptation is officially here — and has taken over the world. While the show beautifully captures the electric, opposites attract chemistry between Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, the transition from page to screen required some noticeable shifts.

Whether you are a die-hard fan of Elle Kennedy's The Deal or a newcomer to the Briar University drama, these 11 facts will completely change how you watch the series.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for both the book and the show. 

Justin being a musician.

In the book, Hannah's unrequited crush, Justin, is just another campus athlete. A footballer, actually. However, the show gives him a creative makeover, turning him into a musician.

And according to the showrunner, Louisa Levy, this was a deliberate storytelling tool to highlight the stark contrast between Garrett and Justin.

"It shows us immediately that Garrett is not Hannah's type," Levy explained to Mamamia. "We don't have the ability to drop into her head with the inner monologue of the books and so this puts it on its feet immediately because [Justin's] in her world. She thinks he's the kind of person that she would be with."

The campus-wide hands off rule.

Book purists will remember a somewhat toxic trope from The Deal: after Garrett and Hannah break up, he essentially claims ownership by telling the other guys on campus that she is off-limits, warning them not to date her. 

The showrunners chose to pivot away from this slightly outdated behaviour.

"We were trying to find a way to keep this fan-favourite moment from the book, while not making it like a problem for Garrett," Levy told Today. "So we came up with a solution that still honours the original intent but makes Garrett not completely terrible for doing this after breaking up with Hannah."

Belmont Cameli's scars.

When Belmont Cameli, the actor who plays Garrett, finally has a shirtless scene in Off Campus, eagle-eyed viewers will notice prominent scarring on his abdomen. 

It turns out those are 100% real. Cameli himself actually donated a kidney to a total stranger back in 2018.

"Yesterday I was blessed with the opportunity and privilege to save a life. The fact of the matter is that most of us have two good kidneys, but thousands of people struggle to live day to day with only one failing kidney," he wrote on his Instagram. 

"Thankfully, after 6 years of strenuous waiting and anticipation, Brendan has been gifted the organ he has so long awaited, and my new friend Clotilde will finally have a healthy kidney and a fresh new start to life." 

What an angel!

The character of Jules.

If you were racking your brain trying to remember who Jules was while reading The Deal, don't worry — your memory isn't failing you. Jules is a completely new character created specifically for the television series. 

In the books, Logan actually has an older brother named Jeff, who works at an automobile workshop with their alcoholic father.

The show completely overhauls this heavy family dynamic. Jeff is entirely cut from the script, replaced instead by a younger sister named Jules, who attends the same college as Logan. To add to the family drama, the series also introduces their mother, who struggles with addiction and has been in and out of rehab.

Hannah kisses Logan instead of Dean.

In one of the biggest romantic shake-ups of the season, a pivotal scene throws a wrench into the group's dynamics. 

In the book, Hannah kisses Dean in order to prove a point to Garrett. The show swaps Dean out for Logan, instantly injecting massive doses of drama into the brewing love triangle and forcing Logan to confront his unexpected, complicated feelings for Hannah much sooner.

Hannah and Garrett's breakup.

The devastating catalyst for Hannah and Garrett's breakup remains a central plot point, but the television adaptation ensures the stakes still feel incredibly high.

In The Deal, Hannah walks away from Garrett because his toxic father, Phil Graham (played by Steve Howey), blackmails her, believing Hannah is a distraction to Garrett's burgeoning hockey career.

Stephen's real-life partner told him to audition for the role of Dean.

Behind the scenes, we have a real-life romance to thank for the perfect casting of Dean. Stephen Kalyn, the actor who brings the fan-favourite playboy to life, revealed that he owed the role entirely to his fiancée, Victoria Lovatsis.

"My fiancée read the books a long time ago, and her favourite character was Dean," Stephen told Elite Daily.

"So when they announced this show, she told me I had to audition. She said, 'There's no other option: You have to be Dean.'"

Ella Bright and Josh Heuston learnt all the music from scratch.

The dedication of the cast is unmatched. 

To make the musical elements of the show feel entirely authentic, stars Ella Bright and Josh Heuston actually learnt how to play their instruments and navigate music from scratch in the lead up to filming. 

"I learnt guitar and piano for the songs that you see in this and how to sing. I didn't really have any music experience at all beforehand. So that was the big undertaking of this project," Heuston told Deadline. 

The Grace Ivers mention. 

In the show, during the charity event hosted by the hockey team, Dean reads out the raffle ticket winners, and one particular name may have sounded very familiar: Grace Ivers. 

If you've read the books, you know this is a massive Easter egg for Logan's upcoming season. Grace is the romantic lead in his dedicated book, The Mistake. 

With the network recently announcing her official casting of India Fowler as Grace, this quick shout-out is the perfect teaser for the romance heading our way.

A major character death. 

For those wondering if the show would spare us from the book's most heartbreaking tragedy, prepare to grab the tissues. And yes, spoiler alert!

We get to meet the charismatic Beau Maxwell this season, and he immediately cements himself as a great character who is incredibly close with the boys. However, book readers know a massive heartbreak is looming.

In the source material, Beau tragically dies in a car accident during the series' third book, The Score. This devastating event shakes the group, serving as the central catalyst that deeply alters the emotional trajectory of Allie and Dean's love story. 

Hunter Davenport. 

During the bonkers finale scene, we met Hunter Davenport, a new hockey player joining the Briar U team. 

Book fans know him as the star of his own romance novel, The Play, in Elle Kennedy's Briar U spin-off series. In the original timeline, Hunter doesn't debut until book two, The Mistake, when the Briar hockey team recruits him as a reluctant line-filler. 

While the show seems to have positioned Hunter and Dean as rivals and enemies, in the books, Hunter actually falls into a mentee role under Dean's wing (before eventually complicating things by catching feelings for Dean's sister, Summer).
