A mother’s powerful letter to people who choose not to vaccinate their children has gone viral being shared more than 220,000 times on Facebook. It comes as she faces an agonising wait to find out if her newborn baby has measles after he was exposed to the disease in a doctor’s surgery.
Her words speak for themselves.
A mother’s plea, a mother’s anger. A mother’s torment.
Jennifer Hibben-White is angry, desperately, desperately angry – with every right in the world to be.
Jennifer’s newborn, Griffin.
Her 15-day old son has been exposed to measles. Her 15-day old son who has not yet been vaccinated. Her 15-day old son who relies on herd immunity until he can be vaccinated.
Jennifer and her daughter, Aurelia.
As Jennifer waits to find out whether her beloved baby boy might have caught the disease she demands those who choose not to vaccinate their own children take responsibility.
Jennifer, from Ontario in Canada has written a Facebook post that has gone around the world being shared more than 220,000 times.
Her words are powerful and gripping, they come from the heart. They speak of how she knows that it is like to lose a child. Jennifer and her partner lost their oldest child, daughter Olivia who died at the age of five and a half to a bacterial infection in her blood.
She says that “you would be the first to line up if you had an inkling of what the death of a child feels like. You would be crawling through the streets on your hands and knees, begging, BEGGING to get that vaccine into your precious babies because that is what I would have done, if I could, to save my daughter.”
Her daughter Olivia could not be saved through vaccines. But Griffin and millions of other babies could if vaccination rates improved.
Her words need to be read and shared. Her message needs to be heard.
