Brothers! Michelle Payne's brother sledges her on national television.

You might be a champion, you might have won a small fortune – hell, you might have won the Melbourne Cup – but nothing can save you from the loving sledge of an older brother.

Australia might be crazy about Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne, but to her laconic older brother, Patrick, she'll always be 'Stink' - the nickname she got from her siblings as payback for being "really cute and good at school".

Patrick - a jockey himself - spilled the beans on his newly famous sister this morning on Sunrise.

Asked how he felt seeing his little sis power home on the 100-1 shot Prince of Penzance at Flemington on Tuesday, he offered this classic:

"It's unbelievable, 'specially watching Michelle play sports at school. Like, she was a like a baby elephant, she just had no skills whatsoever, but she learned to ride really well and kudos to her being able to do so well and not being a natural athlete."

PATRICK!! Play nice!!

Watch the video below. Post continues after video.

Sunrise host Sam Armytage - who has a younger brother herself - was in fits as she told Patrick: "You are such a brother to say something like that on national television."

"We've said worse - that was a soft version," he shot back.

But Patrick is clearly stoked about his sister's performance. And he responded to Glen Boss, who was critical of Michelle's description of racing as chauvinistic.

"It has been in the past, but we all have to evolve as time goes on," Patrick said. "Women are getting more accepted in the sport and this will pave the way for other female riders.

"Michelle gets along really well with the other riders and she mentors the younger female riders so I'd like to think she's a good role model for them and hopefully it will inspire them so they can do well in the sport as well."

For those who want to keep the dream alive, Michelle has two rides at Oaks Day at Flemington today, on Fab Fevola in Race 6, and on Tuscan Sling in Race 7.
