There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who feel physically sick at the thought of even touching their own pimples, never mind someone else’s…. and the people who treat pimple popping as a competitive national sport. The ones who love it even more than undoing a giant box of bubble wrap and trampling on it.
Confession: I’m in the second group.
And the whopping 60,000 subscribers of American dermatologist Dr Sandra Lee’s Youtube channel are on my side.
Yes, Dr Lee (aka Dr Pimple Popper) has become something of an online sensation thanks to her videos of popping everything from blackheads and whiteheads to cysts.
It’s stomach turning. And the people LOVE it. (Post continues after gallery.)
What started off as little Instagram videos showing her daily tasks as a dermatologist exploded into a full-blown career after she uploaded one particular blackhead video… that now has over two million views.
Warning: graphic video.
“Everything was going calmly and smoothly until I posted a blackhead extraction video… I was floored to discover that there are so many people addicted to watching blackheads extracted and cysts and lipomas excised!” she writes on her YouTube channel page.
“Now hopefully everyone wins! My patients get their pimples popped, and my popaholic fans sleep better at night, knowing that those blackheads were extracted.”

The board-certified dermatologist, skin cancer surgeon, and cosmetic surgeon also has many fans on a pimple popping forum on Reddit which even had me gagging and covering my computer screen with my hands.
Such topics of conversation included: “For you guys to enjoy before I take the ol’ needle and thread to it”, “Update on the pimple under my nostril, will pop it when I get home,” and finally “This pus snake slithered out of my chin just now.” With pictures.
Dr Lee’s videos, which are posted daily, all feature her clients.
“If a patient comes in, I ask if they wouldn’t mind me removing these for them in exchange for them allowing me to post it. I try to make it as anonymous as I can,” she told Racked. “The interesting thing is that nobody ever says no.”

But in news that may upset her “popaholic” fans, she admits other pimple popping videos gross her out.
“I don’t watch any of the other videos. They all kind of gross me out!” she said. “When they’re amateur, I don’t want to hear screaming, I don’t like that stuff. That may make me not a true popper. Everyone says, ‘She’s one of us! She’s one of us!’ but I’m not really. I mean I like it, but I don’t need it”.
