The experts dug into Tyson, the former soldier-turned-property-investor on last night's MAFS sit down, but will it be enough to properly ingrain lasting change?

The trailer for this week suggests that the 30-year-old does soften toward his wife, Stephanie, a petite blonde lady he claims is giving off serious masculine energy, but hear me when I say, producers, writers, MAFS editors: don't give this man a redemption arc — it will be a disservice to us all.

Tyson, a conservative Christian who served six years in combat, faced a battle in unknown territory last night.

Relationship specialist John Aiken asked him what he meant by saying that Stephanie was standing in "masculine energy" and "talking down to him" while fellow expert, Mel Schilling prodded further, wondering if, when he asked Stephanie to be a submissive wife, he knew what the definition of "submissive" was before clarifying what it does not mean: refusing to be challenged by your partner.

Forced to elaborate, the divorcee could only reply, "That's just how I feel, man" and all the while wearing a pale pink shirt. The irony was thick last night, my friends. 

Or maybe, Tyson doesn't understand that the terms he's bandying about are faded crib notes from old pseudo-psychology-meets-bible handbooks on marriage.

These relationship tenets are laid down by church leaders who believe that the reason Adam and Eve were banished from the garden of Eden all came down to Eve — she told her husband to eat that apple.

If only she had been — say it with me, church — submissive! Something Tyson says Stephanie needs to learn how to be.

It's right there in Ephesians, dummy! "Wives, submit to your husbands just as Christ submitted to the church". Never mind that it was written at a time when women were considered property.

The fact remains: dominant women get innocent men in trouble. If you want to abide by the biblical teachings, you'll stay quiet.

Sure, we can chortle at this but let's not forget that the entire concept of "love languages" comes from the same place: conservative Christian values. 

The book, Love Languages, was written by a baptist pastor who called himself a DOCTOR despite having zero credentials in order to help women understand that just because hubby doesn't listen or communicate doesn't mean he loves you any less, hun! It's just not his LANGUAGE. Get it?

It's the sort of stuff Tyson would have been fed for a while now. And because it's so intrinsically linked to his belief in God, and therefore the afterlife, I truly do not see him ever giving up on it.

Sure, maybe he'll want four kids instead of five or maybe he will let Stephanie talk after she's made him dinner. But, not unlike George W Bush's plunge into Iraq, Tyson believes he has God on his side and that's a tough chestnut to crack.

After John and Mel challenged him, a blushing Tyson (again, the irony) pledged to "get curious" about Stephanie as a person instead of a vehicle for breeding and submission. But the poor dude needs to have a think about why the idea of a woman challenging him is giving 'masculine energy' in the first place.

The trailer for this week shows Tyson and Stephanie getting closer, but without proper therapy, it's a ticking time bomb.

Grayson, meanwhile, (the best dressed man on the show last night, by the way — not a coincidence) was open and vulnerable about being rejected by Julia, even shedding a tear.

Maybe Tyson needs to 'get curious' about what it means to really be a man in 2026? Because here's where it gets a little dangerous.

Stephanie also harbours conservative beliefs. But she is yet to really expand on them in a group setting. That likely means she's slightly ashamed of them. It definitely means Stephanie has form, strategy and can bury what she needs to. She said she's physically attracted to Tyson. Can you see where I'm going with this?

I don't think Stephanie wants to be really seen. I don't think either of them understand intimacy but that's none of my business. (Kinda).

I think Steph may want the "prize" of a man and once she has it, she'll move onto the next goal. Slight problem: Tyson will feel even more "emasculated" (he's already said she makes him feel that way).

Do you know what men who have been in combat do when they feel powerless? They get really sad and really angry — and it rarely ends well.

I hate to be dramatic but unless there is a really big change, I worry for Stephanie — and Tyson.

I worry about Julia's red beret too, so maybe my fears are unfounded.
