Mamamia Women's Network publishes its inaugural 50 Best Blokes list.

Former Australians of the Year Adam Goodes and Professor Ian Frazer, comedians Tim Minchin and Hamish Blake and social commentators Waleed Aly and Stan Grant are among the list of incredible men acknowledged as Mamamia’s 50 Best Blokes for 2016.

It’s the first time the Mamamia Women’s Network – the country’s leading women’s media network – has celebrated the awards, and MWN co-founder and creative director Mia Freedman says they acknowledge all that is right about so many Australian men.

“For years I worked on the eligible bachelor list when I was at Cleo and it was the definitive list of Australian men in the 80s and 90s. But 20 years later, here at Mamamia we felt the definition of what it means to be a good Aussie bloke has evolved.

“It’s not about the size of your bank account or your biceps; Australia women value different things in 2016. The men on our list are amazing champions of all kinds of things from science to medicine, charities to entertainment but what they all have in common is that women think they’re top blokes.”

The list was chosen by 5000 Mamamia readers who were asked to narrow down a 100-strong shortlist and celebrates Australian men who are doing great things across the country.

Mamamia editor-in-chief Kate de Brito says many of the men who made the final list could be described as feminists.

“We read plenty of stories about men behaving badly, but those aren’t the only headlines we should be writing. In everyday and public life there are so many men doing great things that support and promote women.”

To celebrate the men, this week Mamamia will be counting down the top ten, with the announcement of the reader’s choice for Best Bloke on Friday, September 16.
