I’ve decided I don’t like the word hag anymore. So now it’s Watch.

New issue of US Harpers Bazaar. Great interview. Reminds me why I like her…..

Ask her how she maintains her knickers-ready figure and Victoria will admit she is “very disciplined.” She’s not going to pretend she ate a burger before a red-carpet event, because she didn’t. She makes an effort. “It’s funny; I go to the gym now,” she says. “I run four miles a day.” Before events, “I go into hair and makeup, and I turn into ‘Victoria Beckham.’ I’ll try on all my dresses, and I’ll pick out a handbag, and I’ll put on the shades. I instantly turn into this person, and it sort of feels like a character. And there are so many pictures of it.” Interesting choice of words, it. She shrugs. “But it’s a true character because it’s still me.”

Victoria does let herself go occasionally, but in a very VB way. “I run around the house in a tracksuit sometimes!” she protests. What sort of tracksuit? “A fabulous one.” When out and about, she always pulls a look together. “If I go to the supermarket looking like shit, that affects my work. I am selling an image. Plus, I have fun with it.”

Victoria’s image is evolving, however. “I have started smiling,” she announces brightly. “I’ve mastered this smirk; it’s a smile that isn’t a smile.” She attributes her “Blue Steel” look to performance anxiety. “I used to get so nervous, and when I got on the red carpet, I’d freeze up. I’ve had so many things said about me over the years, like a public bullying.” But Victoria 3.0 (Spice Girl, footballer’s wife, fashion force) isn’t nervous anymore. “The older you get, the more comfortable you become with yourself, and you accept what you have physically. Also, the fact that my business is doing very well” — she smiles — “makes me feel a little more confident, too.”

Three years ago, David took Victoria on a surprise trip back to England to renew their wedding vows. The two boarded a private plane filled with flowers. “David was wearing a tracksuit, but then he went to the bathroom and came out in a tuxedo. I was like, ‘Um, I should have made more of an effort.’ But then he gave me this gorgeous white Cavalli dress, with matching shoes and two different options of handbags.” They arrived at their home in Hertfordshire, where they were met by their families and remarried “by the same vicar who first married us.” Back to the jet, “where we had Nobu onboard. Then we flew to Paris, where we stayed at the Coco Chanel Suite at the Ritz.” Still in the Cavalli? Victoria smiles girlishly. “Oh, no, David gave me another dress. An Alaïa.”

For Victoria’s birthday this past April, David flew her away again, this time to Napa. “I opened a door and there was Seal, Heidi’s husband. I look up and see Heidi, Tom, Katie, and Kate Beckinsale and her husband, Len, and they all yelled, ‘Surprise!’ We have really nice friends, with nice kids.” About the Cruises, who threw the Beckhams a lavish welcome party when they moved to L.A., Victoria says, “We’ve known Tom since I was pregnant with Cruz,” she says. “He’s such an amazing person, and so is Katie. You hear all these strange things about them, but they are genuinely nice, normal people.”
