This beautiful Mexican paradise needs to be your next holiday destination.

Luring in a rich calibre of Hollywood’s elite every year (we’re talking George Clooney, Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow and Justin Bieber), Los Cabos is a destination to put at the top your bucket list.

A tropical oasis situated at the bottom of the Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos – meaning The Capes – boasts a stunning sunset amongst a pristine backdrop of Mexican desert that collides with the ocean.

With luxurious resorts right on the beach, world class dining and grand coral reefs emblazoned with sunshine close to all year round, Los Cabos is worth a visit whether it’s for a girls trip, a peaceful getaway with the family or a romantic honeymoon with the lot.

los cabos

Los Cabos is nestled between two distinct towns likened as distant relatives, Cabo San Lucas - rebellious and youthful, infamous for its bustling nightlife and spring break mischief, and San Jose del Cabo, the older, wiser tranquil town.

To explore these coastal regions and make the most of Los Cabos, travellers should consider hiring a car or book a transportation service company.

Relatively new to Los Cabos (opened mid 2018), Montage Los Cabos' open lobby and beachfront rooms boast an unparalleled view of the Santa Maria Bay, allowing you to be mesmerised by the grand scenery.

The rooms are spacious, graced with a modern décor, and the service at Montage is exceptional. A slice of paradise for everyone, there are plenty of peaceful spots to unwind in the quiet, although Montage is perfectly set up for families with kid-friendly swimming pools and programs.

Experience Baja’s freshest cuisine at the two alfresco dining venues. Mezcal is a must to start your morning with a modern Mexican dish such the Motuleños or Mezcal Benedict with vanilla butter poached Lobster. By evening Marea by Night offers an exquisite dinner overlooking the water.

This all-inclusive luxe coastal resort has spacious rooms, spa bathrooms and an array of sophisticated dining options including Cocina De Autor. It also has a complimentary fitness centre and swimming pools adorned with palm trees and swim-up bars so you can enjoy a cocktail while watching the Mexican sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

One visit to SE Spa will leave you feeling transformed and renewed by the restorative ceremonies that are inspired by local traditions and nature’s healing elixirs.

A unique and noteworthy touch to SE Spa is the delicately handcrafted dragonfly, a key motif of SE Spa that symbolises change, given to each guest at the beginning of a ceremony to manifest a path of introspect and renewal of the spirit during their treatment journey.

A signature treatment is the Seven-Step Water Ceremony but of course there are a full range of massages and facial treatments to indulge in.

Although it’s challenging to leave gorgeous resorts like Montage and Grand Velas it’s well worth venturing out for the San Jose del Cabo Art Walk which is held every Thursday between November and June.

Immerse yourself as if a local and stroll through the vibrant, colourful backstreets of Los Cabos, experiencing the artistic, cultural character of this colonial Mexican town. Capture the essence of San Jose while exploring the art galleries that range from contemporary, traditional Mexican art like Ida Victoria’s Gallery to interactive, sensory pieces that make music based on a couple’s energy vibrations at Ivan Guaderrama’s exhibition.

Beyond art, San Jose has impressive preserved 18th century buildings and the locals are incredibly welcoming, willing to share the stories of this historic downtown or offer recommendations on shopping handcraft souvenirs and dining options at local restaurants.

For an exhilarating thrill, book a private Jeep tour to Cabo Pulmo with the friendly and knowledgeable guides at HighTide. Expect to experience The Sea of Cortez, jagged mountains cascading in cactus plants and wild chipmunks, roadrunners and iguanas scurrying amongst the Mexican desert. It's an adventure off the beaten track and a great way to discover more of native Los Cabos in a 4X4 Jeep.

Upon arrival at the National Park of Cabo Pulmo, a UNESCO World Heritage gem renown as "El Acuario Mas Grande del Mundo" (The World’s Largest Aquarium), you can snorkel and experience first-hand the beauty of Baja’s unique marine life.

If the HighTide Jeep ride has ignited your adventurous spirit, hidden amongst the mountains and slightly out of the way (but highly recommended) is a small town Santiago with stunning Santa Rita Hot Springs and a Waterfall nearby to soak in.

Enjoy a day amongst the enchanting water with a Cabo sailing tour. Have the camera ready to take snaps of the iconic El Arco (the arch rock formation) located in “Land’s End” (the collision of the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean) where you won’t hit land again until Antarctica.

Nearby El Arco is a strip of sand nestled between rock formations known as the legendary Lover’s Beach. Calm and tranquil, it’s best to jump out here for a swim or snorkel in the Sea of Cortez. Sail further along to reach Divorce Beach facing the Pacific ocean and you’ll be met with turbulent water and dangerous rip currents.

From December to April the Los Cabos puts on a spectacle with sightings of Sea Lions, Bottlenose and common dolphins, sea turtles, and marvellous Gray Whales and Humpback Whales.

After a busy day filled with adventures in the sun, a contemporary Mexican meal accompanied with a glass of vino (be spoiled for choice with over 300 labels to choose from!) is sure to go down a treat at Don Sanchez. Located in San Jose del Cabo, enjoy sensational Baja cuisine loved by locals as much as tourists amongst a vibrant, sophisticated setting.

Finish off the evening with a leisurely stroll to La Revolución which boasts an award-winning mixologist, and order a cocktail from the eclectic menu or stick to one of the classics.

If you’re curious about Los Cabo’s nightlife, a few streets away is Mixology Fusion. Check their Facebook page to learn the secret password for entry to the exclusive nightclub and join the locals with Tequila shots and dance until dawn.

For a memorable meal that fuses signature Baja flavours with Asian cuisine, Arbol (the latest restaurant addition of Las Ventanas) is one for the bucket list. The details of Arbol are Instagram-worthy, with stunning sashimi and curry dishes presented as sophisticated as the chic décor of the restaurant. Sculpted trees adorn the space with dimly lit lanterns and the white walls are emblazoned with warm yellow to burnt orange hues that flicker throughout the night to mimic the Los Cabos sunset.
