'Tell me your kid has better style than you without telling me. I'll go first.'

I know I'm not alone on this one.

The one where us mamas — as cool as we hope, try and aspire to be — know that our daughters are probably more stylish and fashionable than we are.

Let's call them our "mini stylists".

But this is nothing new.

When I was a child, I certainly thought I was cooler than my mum, too. However, when I look back at those 80s photos now, I realise that over-sized bows and puff shoulder dresses were not as cool as I once thought.

The modern mini fashionista boasts a certain style where "I'm wearing sparkling ballet flats, a rainbow skirt and a unicorn headband" is the vibe to have.

They also have the "I'm here, look at me" kinda confidence that only a 6-year-old could get away with. It's the "I have to wear my best party dress" to a trip to the shops mindset. And it's the spark in that little eye when they see themselves all dressed up like their favourite doll.

If this is ringing any bells, here are six things you'll probably recognise.

1. They've got a bigger wardrobe than you.

My walk-in robe might be slightly bigger than my daughter's in terms of floor space, however, it's fair to say her collection possesses a higher wow factor than mine these days.

While my wardrobe consists of work attire, active wear and mum jeans, my daughter's is jam-packed for every occasion — party dresses, stylish jumpers, bright skirts, cardigans, furry jackets, scarves, fancy hats, and of course, a shoe collection that any fashion kid will fall head over heels for.

2. Their fashion doll collection is... endless.

Like many of us, my girl has always been obsessed with dolls from a young age. But this love is growing as she is.

And most parents can probably agree that dolls are next level these days. I mean, like actually next level. (I couldn't have even dreamed them up when I was a kid.)

My daughter's collection of fashion dolls, outfits, hair accessories and shoes are enough to even get me sucked into dressing them up.

Her love of fashion and style comes alive when she plays with them. After all, the options are endless — from fashion shows to photoshoots and hairstyling.

Right now, the L.O.L. OMG Surprise Fashion Show range is having a real moment in our house, especially as she anxiously awaits for the new movie releasing in October. In this range, there are two different editions: one for the budding hairstylist and the other for the clothes obsessed.

With the hair editions, your fashionista gets to give Lady Braids and Twist Queen the ultimate hair makeovers. From runway-ready twists, crimps and curls to waves and sleeky straight hair, my girl spends hours creating new looks.

To add some more fun, with the style editions, she gets to dress LaRose and Miss Frost up, mixing and matching the clothes to create hundreds of new looks.

Wherever we go, a L.O.L Surprise OMG Doll must go. She has them in almost every room of the house; they have their own names and personalities, and they even have their own dedicated wardrobe.

3. They give out (unsolicited) fashion advice.

Taking fashion advice from my (very stylish, might I add) 6-year-old daughter was not by choice; it's just seemed to happen when she turned five.

But strangely enough, she's got a few good points.

She knows how to style a good outfit. She gets how to accessorise and she's in with the latest trends.

She's also pretty darn quick to tell me when she approves... or disapproves, but I try not to focus on the last part as much. Instead, I like to think she's (a very little) fashion coach in training.

4. They've got a pair of shoes for every occasion.

Shoes are a big deal for any fashion lover, right?

No exception for my daughter.

I have memories of preparing my daughter's nursery before she was born, and I had dedicated a whole shelf to her little newborn baby shoes. It was officially the cutest collection ever.

Now she's sporting sparkly ballet flats, white Mary Janes, and glitter sneakers — a pair for every occasion, as she would put it.

5. They want to dress in matching outfits.

I know this won't last much longer, so I relish in every opportunity.

While she’s young enough to want to match outfits with me, I choose to embrace it.

Sometimes we even accidentally dress the same, as my wardrobe is often similar to hers anyway (thanks to her influence).

It's a sweet little pastime we have together — like little mini-me days.

6. A runway show is their favourite family activity.

One of my daughter’s favourite games to play at home is to dress up in her costumes or party dress (or really anything else in her wardrobe), and put on a fashion show for us.

She loves adding accessories, crowns, play shoes and anything else she finds in her wardrobe. She demands our full attention, a countdown and a round of applause.

It's a fun game to play as a family (if you don't mind the messy, raided wardrobe that always seems to follow).
