Since I voted for Kevin in 07, he has not disappointed me. Since becoming our Prime Minister he has apologised to the stolen generation and given us our first female deputy prime minister in the fabulous Julia Gillard.

Then, on his first prime ministerial trip overseas, he told George Bush that Australia wants to pull troops out of Iraq, told the Queen we want to become a republic and told China that their human rights record in Tibet is appalling. Gutsy.

Now, he has appointed a fabulous woman, Quentin Bryce as our first female Governor General. You can read about Quentin after the jump. She is an extraordinary woman and a superb role model for women and, in fact, all Australians.

Go Kevin. You’re making me proud.

As opposed to your predecessor who – every time he went overseas – made me embarrassed because all he seemed to do was grovel to world leaders and wear appalling tracksuits in public like this……

Quentin Bryce is a prominent feminist and campaigner for women’s rights, Ms Bryce was a lawyer specialising in anti-discrimination and human rights law before becoming the Governor of Queensland in 2003.

Raised in the outback Queensland town of Ilfracombe, she was the first female academic in the University of Queensland’s law school and was the federal sex discrimination commissioner from 1988 to 1993.

Ms Bryce has been married for 43 years to the designer and architect Michael Bryce. They have two daughters, three sons and five grandchildren.
