Kate Paterson was weeks away from celebrating her baby girl's first birthday.

It's a day they will both never see.

Now, instead of preparing birthday presents and cake, Kate's family and friends are preparing for a funeral after the 38-year-old and her 11-month-old daughter April were found dead in their Bannockburn, Logan home on March 12.

Police said officers attended the home following reports of a man, 38, being struck by a car not far from the crime scene, 30km south of Brisbane.

Officers were trying to reach the man's next of kin, but instead discovered the bodies of the woman and their daughter in the family's home.

Both died from critical injuries from an edged weapon, police said.

The Age has since identified the pair as Kate and her daughter, April.

The 38-year-old man has been identified by The Age as Kate's partner and her child's father, Blake Seers.

Police earlier said witnesses raised the alarm after seeing a man covered in blood running along a footpath before he was hit by a black utility about 300m from the family home.

On Tuesday, police confirmed Seers had been charged with two counts of murder (domestic violence offences).

He remains in hospital, having suffered serious injuries, and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court by video link on Wednesday.

Loved ones remembered Kate as a "loving" friend, saying the loss "has left devastation across magnitudes".

"Kate, at only 38 years old, was a loving daughter, sister, mother, partner and friend," they wrote in a GoFundMe set up to help Kate and her daughter's family pay for funeral costs.

"I cannot begin to explain the happiness of her finding her life partner and bringing her baby girl April into the world.

"Their families were ready to celebrate Kate's and her fiancés wedding, along with celebrating April's first birthday.

"Instead, they now have to live through the agonising nightmare of saying goodbye and laying both beautiful girls to rest."

According to Sherele Moody's Australian Femicide Watch, Kate was the 14th woman killed this year. Her daughter April was the fifth child killed in 2026.
