3. Match fixing in tennis reports slammed by world number 3 Roger Federer.

Website Buzfeed along with the BBC broke the story yesterday suggesting that a group of up to 16 repeat offenders have been allowed to distort matches at all levels of the game without being prosecuted by the Tennis Integrity Unit.

The allegations include the claim that a singles grand-slam champion is among the players implicated.

Roger Federer, speaking after his straight sets victory over Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili,  has said it is time to name names.

“I would love to hear names,” said Federer. “Then at least it’s concrete stuff and you can actually debate about it. Was it the player? Was it the support team? It’s so all over the place. It’s nonsense to answer something that is pure speculation.”

“I don’t know exactly how much new things came out, to be quite honest. I heard old names being dropped. That story was checked out. Clearly you got to take it super serious, you know, like they did back in the day. Since we have the Integrity Unit, it puts more pressure on them that a story like this broke again.”

Fairfax Media reports that detectives from the Victoria Police Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit approached at least one Australian tennis figure on Friday asking if any first-round matches had raised eyebrows.

8. David Cameron says Muslim women must learn English or risk being deported.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is facing criticism for his suggestion, in an opinion piece, that immigrant Muslim women should be considered for deportation if they don’t improve their English.

Writing in The Times the British PM said too many Muslim women are forced into subservient roles by their male partners.

“Someone can move to here with very basic English and there’s no requirement to improve it over time. We will change that. We will say now: if you don’t improve your fluency, that could affect your ability to stay in the UK,” Cameron wrote.

“This will help make it clear to those men who stop their partners from integrating that there are consequences.”

But he has been attacked for being “lazy and misguided.”
