Why we feel extremely sorry for 4,788 Americans.

There’s a group of about 4700 people in the United States of America that we feel extremely sorry for.

Although our sympathies extend to all Americans who have to live with Donald Trump as their country’s president, there’s one particular group who have an unfortunate association with the 72-year-old.

Those 4,788 Americans, counted in 2016, share the president’s last name: Trump.

As you can imagine, the inescapable coincidence of having the last name Trump is a source of distress for many of those who don’t agree with the man’s politics and human right’s violations. Particularly for those who find themselves bullied or teased for it.

On Monday Melania Trump invited one such Trump to the White House to attend the State of the Union address her husband is giving on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the White House, Melania extended the invitation to the 11-year-old, among 12 other special guests, because he “has been bullied in school due to his last name”.

In December, the Washington Times reported that the grade six student from Delaware been the target of relentless bullying at school.

“They curse at him, they call him an idiot, they call him stupid,” his mother, Megan Trump, told the newspaper. “He said he hates himself, and he hates his last name, and he feels sad all the time.”

The bullying, which started at the time of the 2016 presidential election got so bad that his parents pulled him out of school and homeschooled him last year.

They had hoped the bullying wouldn’t continue at a new school, but it has, and now the boy is going by his father’s last name, Berto.

For older Trump’s the name was once a source merely of the occasional “you’re fired!” jokes, referencing the then-Apprentice star, according to a report by Vox on people with the name in 2016.

But since Donald Trump entered the presidential race, some Trumps told the publication been wary of handing over their ID to strangers who might mistakenly think they’re related. Some were even considering changing their names.

We have no doubt it’s only gotten worse for the around 4000 Trumps living in America.
