Have you met Miss Jones? We mean January Jones, of course. Now that Mad Men has finished filming, January Jones is free to dye her hair any colour of the rainbow. And, it turns out, her colour of choice is a dusty pink.

Yesterday, January posted a photo of herself to Instagram, her hair swathed in a plum-coloured goo. “Can you guess where I’m going with this?” she teased.

I can just imagine her saying this as Betty Draper. She could be wearing a fluffy, feathered nightgown, and she could whisper this sweetly to Don, while in bed. Or, she could be standing in the kitchen throwing disgusting food onto plates for her brats, a cigarette in her mouth, the words hissed out. Such is the talent of Miss Jones!

A few hours later, back in Instagram Land, January followed up with this pretty confection. I love the combination of her classic, blow-dried updo with the surprising pink shade. Well done, Betty, well done.

On the pink scale, January’s hair is more musk stick than zinc stick, but it is nonetheless a dramatic change for her. Her years on Mad Men were monotonously blonde. I loved her perfect, Grace Kelly shade, but it’s also exciting to see this change. I’d love to see her muss up the texture with some sea salt spray for a rock’n’roll mermaid look. C’mon, January, do it for me!

After all, we know from January’s Instagram that she loves a good dress-up…

Meanwhile, let’s indulge in some Mad Men fan fiction. Why would Betty Draper have pink hair? My theory is that it was because she ate too many Bugles back in season five. You never know what was in those things.
