Jack Antonoff and Marget Qualley inspired one of the love songs of a generation: 'Margaret' by Lana Del Rey.
Many will remember the 'when you know, you know' line floating across their social media since it came out in 2023 – the same year they wed in New Jersey in August.
The song outlines their love story. Jack met Margaret on Lana's rooftop. She was wearing white and the minute he saw her, he was in trouble.
He told The Howard Stern Show that he knew he wanted to marry her in that moment.
"I saw her and it was like a f---ing Hallmark movie that doesn't seem believable," he said in the interview. "When I met her, I started imagining things that I'd never even imagined, like marriage."
It was a whirlwind from there.
They met in 2021, were engaged in 2022 and married the following year.
Antonoff said he proposed while they were living in Paris and asked her sister for a blessing.
"I came back and I could tell that I looked crazy 'cause she looked at me like something was wrong, and I think it's because I had begun to sweat," he said. "And all I do is joke, so when I become serious, I think it's a bit arresting," he said of the moment he asked for her hand.
For those unawares, Antonoff is a famous record producer, who is behind some of the most popular hits of the century – Taylor Swift, Lorde, The 1975, Sabrina Carpenter and Florence + the Machine (along with making his own music under the group name Bleachers).
Qualley is the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell and model Paul Qualley. She began as a ballerina before moving into acting and modeling. She recently starred in The Substance and also played the lead role in Maid.
Interestingly, in a February 2026 interview with Qualley, the Vanity Fair journalist noted that she seemed reluctant to talk about her relationship.
"I've always been very love-oriented. I've always been looking for my person, and I met Jack," she said.
And just five months later, it seems that the love story has come to an end with People confirming the two have split after three years of marriage.
The news came on July 8, with sources telling the publication that the couple have been 'rocky' for some time. Another insider added that they're 'figuring things out'.
Qualley has recently removed photos of her wedding from her Instagram, although she kept a few shots of her estranged husband, including a photo of them laughing together earlier this year.
Qualley had recently shared the throwback photos in a March post celebrating the release of Antonoff's new single, "dirty wedding dress," captioning the post with the song's name in cursive.
Antonoff is currently touring with Bleachers and Qualley is working on a horror film, so it's safe to say they've both been busy.
Suspicions were raised the past week after Antonoff attended his close friend and collaborator Taylor Swift's wedding without his wife.
He brought his sister Rachel, who is a fashion designer, with him instead.
Neither Qualley or Antonoff's representatives have spoken to the media as yet.
Speaking on the success of the viral love song Lana Del Rey wrote for the couple, she said she had Antonoff to thank for showing her true love.
"I'm grateful for [Antonoff], for his example that he gave me in his marriage to Margaret," Del Rey said at an event in 2024. "I saw the way he looked at her when he met her and he's a big reason why I waited so long to get married and why I met my amazing husband."
It's not the first time Antonoff has made headlines for a public break up. Jack Antonoff previously dated Lena Dunham from 2012 until their split in December 2017.
They were one of the most talked-about indie-culture couples of the 2010s, and their breakup stayed in the public conversation for years because both remained famous and continued to work in music and television.
The split has also found itself back in the spotlight thanks to Lena Dunham's newly released memoir, Famesick, in which she reflects candidly on the end of their six-year relationship.
Rather than placing the blame solely on Antonoff, Dunham admits to having an affair with a childhood friend during their relationship, describing it as a misguided attempt to "fix" herself and save what they had.
However, she also recalled feeling sidelined by Antonoff's close friendship with an unnamed teenage pop star — widely speculated by fans to be Lorde — after finding the singer crying in his lap while he comforted her.
While she doesn't outright accuse him of cheating, she does allege an emotional intimacy that underscored how disconnected she'd begun to feel in their own relationship.
Qualley for her part also had a few high-profile relationships before meeting Jack, including a brief romance with Pete Davidson in 2019 and Shia LaBeouf in late 2020.
