Hello gang, I have emerged from milky sleepy happy coma to rejoin the world.

Firstly, may I apologise for the fact that some of the posts I left you were faulty – links not working or youtube clips no longer available. I was patting myself on the back for being so organised as to pre-plan posts for my very brief maternity leave but I didn’t think to check every single link to make sure they still worked.

Unfortunately,  I was even less organised about stocking up on items required by a newborn. Like clothes. At one point in the first few days at home, Remy had his lower body wrapped in one of my old pashminas (remember the 90s?) because he had no pants.

I had forgotten how fast small babies chew (or actually poo/spew) through their clothes…….so much washing, so little time.

Since I didn’t know if he was a boy or a girl, I thought I’d hang off buying many clothes. What exactly I thought he was going to wear is hard to say. Fortuantely, he is secure enough in his masculinity to feel comfortable wearing some of Coco’s pink hand-me-downs.

Anyway, after all my frothing over the Olympics, I reckon I ended up clocking about 8hrs a day watching it on TV. During labour, in the hospital and at home….. I was bereft when it ended. I didn’t really care who won….it was just nice to watch harmless pretty pictures of people running and jumping and swimming and flipping through the air…..

I’m still convinced we spend far too much money and energy investing in our sports people (I read this week each of our gold medals cost $19m in funding). But jeez I’m glad it was on so I could just sit mindlessly watching it for two weeks.

I certainly wasn’t up to watching anything traumatic like the actual news. Every time a news bulletin came on about Colin/Collette the orphan whale who was trying to nuzzle a boat because it thought it was its mother, I would burst into tears. "I"ll feed you Colin!" I sobbed.

Anyway, on the odd occasion I’ve managed to get my shit together to turn on the computer, I’ve been vastly entertained and delighted to read all your comments. And the ones you left after I posted about Remy being born were just so lovely. Thank you. Meant the world.

Now, transmission will resume as normal. Thanks for your patience and loyalty in my absence. Mia x
