This photo of a woman's husband buying her favourite nail polish has redefined modern romance.

There is a truth so universally acknowledged that it has formed the basis for many tampon ads, sitcom gaffs, spats, memes, and more, and that is it is very difficult to try and get a guy to buy you the right makeup, skincare, sanitary product, or basic household supplies.

The struggle is very real, and lies in the fact that when you combine the male brain’s complete disinterest with the subject matter and their umm… lesser (?) attention to detail, the results can be less then satisfactory.

But when they do try, it’s just a bit adorable.

Exhibit A:

Man goes into Sally’s Beauty Supply (pretty much a US Priceline), man is on the phone with wife in what we can only assume is a nail polish related emergency, man tries very hard to nail (‘scuse the pun) the correct shade, woman documents example of male making an effort, collective female hearts melt.

Facebook user Brittney Johnson shared this seismic occurrence in romance land, and there are many reasons why this post is going viral.

1. “I got this, I got this, I’ll be home in a bit.”

A reminder that not all heroes wear capes, and instead provide emotional support in times of need.

2. “Ok, so I sent you the pic. Is that the right one? You wanna know the colors close to it? You just want all three colors??”

He both understands the need for options, and is trying his darn best. And look, we get it – makeup stands are terrifying, shout out to this hot mess. For example, while the shades forest, olive, and chartreuse are all essentially shades of green, we know they really aren’t.

Britney Johnson (aka, the people’s David Attenborough) sums it up in one word – effort.

In our modern dating world, we don’t need no man to buy us roses, chocolates, or lavish displays of affection, but it’s really all in the small things. Being attentive, splitting the house work, just trying harder, but also taking out the rubbish (because gross).

And to all you struggling single girls out there, in the words of Britney Johnson, may this be your new mantra:

“Don’t settle for less than that y’all. Somebody, somewhere, will love you enough to go shopping alone for your favorite nail polish;)”

And ain’t that the truth.
