4 incredible food combinations you probably haven't thought of before.

You’ll be wanting to try these healthy recipes ASAP.

We’re coming off the back of Christmas, New Years, Australia Day and summer in general. We’ve all over-indulged and it’s now our mission to squeeze back in to those jeans from last year.

We want to be healthy (without cutting out all food groups) and we still want to enjoy mealtimes and getting creative in the kitchen.

So sure, salads and fruit and green smoothies will all be high on our grocery lists in the coming months – but that also just sounds plain boring (who wants to be munching on celery sticks for the rest of summer?) Nope, I’m out.

Green smoothie? Nup we’re out.

But I don’t want to be out, I want to be in – I want to kick-start some healthy habits without sacrificing my enjoyment of delicious food and drinks. I want you guys to be in this too.

So, I dug around and did a little research and discovered there are some delicious health food combos out there that you’ve probably never thought of, but will want to whip up right away.

So without further ado, here are some strange, amazing and delicious healthy food combinations that you never would’ve expected.

Just as an FYI, this post is sponsored by SodaStream. But all opinions expressed by the author are 100 per cent authentic and written in their own words.

1. Vegemite and avocado.

This combination is simple but effective. It’s great to have for any of your three meals during the day (yep, it works for breakfast, lunch and dinner) and can also be a really solid filler in between meals to stop you snacking on bad things.

This combo is an absolute winner because it combines salty with creamy (and squeeze a little lemon on top and you’ve got zest in there as well).

Avocado is a much healthier substitute for butter.

I recommend putting the duo on a slice of multigrain bread. Avocado is a much healthier substitute for butter. Simply get your slice of bread (or toast) and spread a thin layer of Vegemite on the base. Then spread a healthy dose of avocado over the Vegemite. And if you’re feeling fun (and lemon is close by) squeeze a tad of lemon juice over the top.

Tangy, salty, creamy goodness.

Foods that aren’t actually healthy. Are you surprised?

2. Sparkling water and orange juice.

While we continue to be blessed with Australian sun and warm summer days we will continue to crave cold, refreshing drinks.

Fizz will always amp up a drink – seriously, fizz can turn the blandest of drinks into something you’ll want a whole jug of to yourself.

A classic glass of orange juice can go down a treat, but when the heat is really seeping in, or when you just want something that screams refreshment, then this combo is perfect. It is SO easy as well.

Put tap water in a SodaStream. Fizz it up and then mix your fresh sparkling water in with a glass of OJ! Definitely add some ice (and maybe an umbrella if you’re feeling fancy) and sip away on your new and improved sparkly drink.

3. Watermelon and balsamic vinegar.

This combo is a perfect way to give yourself a treat during the day or after dinner without feeling guilty. It’s also super refreshing.

Slice the watermelon up and drizzle balsamic vinegar over the top. Admittedly, for the best results you should sprinkle some sugar in the mix just to take that overwhelming bitterness out of the vinegar (a tiny pinch is all you need though). Mix the vinegar through the cubed watermelon until it is slightly soaked and you are done.

Grab a fork and dig in. Refreshing juicy watermelon with a bittersweet dressing – it’ll be a party for your tastebuds.

4. Apple ginger sparklers.

This one is for those lazy days or social gatherings where you want something to sip on slowly and enjoy every mouthful.

All you need is sparkling apple cider, ginger, sparkling water and cinnamon sticks. Mix the ginger with some sparkling water until the water has a bite to it. From there you add the sparkling apple cider in to your glass and stir the mixture with ice. Then pop some cinnamon sticks in to the glass and grate some extra ginger flakes over the top.

Refreshing, healthy and always an absolute hit.

So guys, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get healthy AND creative in the kitchen. Winning.
