They can clone a sheep but WHY CAN NOBODY INVENT A WAY TO RECALL WORDS YOU DIDN’T MEAN TO SEND? If you’ve never wanted to reach into your computer and pull out something you’ve sent by mistake or, alternatively, vomit on your keyboard and then hide under your desk in the foetal position then buddy? You haven’t been online very long.
Very bad idea to be near a communication device when drunk. Or tired. Or recovering from surgery or giving birth. Or pre-menstrual. Or angry. Or distracted.
This leaves not a lot of time to actually communicate with anyone electronically but it also reduces your chance of accidentally sending something that could ruin your life. Or at least your afternoon.
And now that we’re typing (on email, text, facebook and twitter) more often than we’re talking, the chance of making a huge communication mistake rises.
Earlier this month New South Wales Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell tweeted that the NSW Liberals’ struggle in getting candidates ”reflects internal poll – pre and post the Ranga”. He thought he was sending a private message to a journalist but instead of a Direct Message he sent it to all his 3 790 + followers. Ooops.
Yesterday it was reported in the SMH
Have you ever sent a message to the wrong person? Pressed “reply all” instead of replying discreetly to one person?
