It takes Gwyneth Paltrow 21 products to go from this to this

“Believe it or not, I am terrible at doing my own makeup,” Gwyneth Paltrow confesses in her latest Goop newsletter.

The 41-year-old has published a step-by-step makeup routine by her London-based makeup artist, Emma Lovell on her lifestyle site Goop. The tutorial recreates the same techniques she uses for her red carpet appearances, and contains a whopping 21 beauty products.

Paltrow doesn’t feature in the tutorial, instead one of her “gorgeous school mum friends from my son Mosey’s class” agreed to be the model.

“Before you start to think about applying makeup, it’s important to take good care of your skin by cleaning and moisturizing. These are vital steps that yield the best final results,” writes Paltrow.

Lovell uses French skincare products, Nuxe Micellar Water and Créme Prodigeuse Day Moisturiser to first prep the skin.

Next, Lovell applies a few dabs of Jemma Kidd’s Light As Air Foundation to the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin, and Jemma Kidd Wrinkle Rescue Serum and Brightener as a concealer under the eyes, on the chin, in the t-zone and around the nose.

She then curls the lashes with EF|Studio Precision Lash Curler, “this is Emma’s one “don’t leave the house without it” must,” advises Gwyneth.

Lovell then applies Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes in E107—a cream eyeshadow in a mushroom shade, Jouer mascara and Jouer Brow Definer. Next comes a cream blush from Paul & Joe, a hydrating lipstick, and Lovell then sets the whole look with a loose powder with a thick brush to reduce shine.

To take this daytime look to night, Lovell builds on the daytime makeup she’s already done. As Gwyneth often only has 20 minutes to prepare between press conferences and red carpet appearances, Lovell quickly applies liquid liner, lines the eyes with a kohl eye pencil, adds another coat of mascara, traces around the lips with a liner, applies a slighter darker shade of lipstick, lipgloss, adds illuminator along the top of the cheekbones, and brushes on a glittery eyeshadow on lids.
