Over the weekend, Noel Pauley and her husband Shane got a little bit creative on their date night.
The couple from the US headed to their local op shop with $10 each to buy an entire outfit for the other person – and the results were hilariously sweet.
“Tonight’s date night was hysterical,” Pauley wrote in a Facebook post which has since gone viral.
“We had $10 each in Goodwill to buy each other an outfit that had to be worn out,” she wrote. “Once we were out we had to act like it was completely normal.”
Pauley goes on to explain they also made up fake names to go along with their outfits, and pretended everything was normal as they took on their new faux identities all night.
“We now challenge all of you to take a #goodwilldatenight and have a blast with your person!!! Love, Roger and Ethel,” Pauley signed off her post.
In a follow up blog post, Pauley explained the couple “try very hard to be intentional with date nights”.
“We have a baby girl and it is so easy to get wrapped up in her and her cuteness,” she wrote. “So, in an effort to keep our marriage first, we try to go on a date night one night a week. And we try to make them fun!”
She said she and Shane hadn’t “laughed this hard in a long time”.
“Marriage is tough, parenting is tough, and honestly life is tough. But everything is better when you’re doing it with your best friend.”
Pauley’s original Facebook post has already been shared more than 355,000 times and many people have commented, thanking the couple for suggesting such a hilariously fun idea – while others shared their date night stories.
Screw the Minions, let’s take the kids to watch Saw. Post continues…
“I actually did something similar to this with an ex but without the goodwill clothes,” one person wrote. “We hired a driver for the night and made up names, occupations and an elaborate story of how we met! We went to several different places throughout the night and just built upon the fake story as we went along with our fake personalities. It was one of our best memories!!!”
We love your work, guys.
What do you think of Noel and Shane’s date night? Would you try it yourself?
