Refugees to compete at the Olympics for the first time ever.

This is why I love the Olympics.  This year there will be a team for refugees who have no country to call their own.

“By welcoming the team of Refugee Olympic Athletes to the Olympic Games Rio 2016, we want to send a message of hope for all refugees in our world,” IOC President Thomas Bach said.

Willy is finally free! No more Orca Whales at Sea World.

Sea World has announced that it is stopping it’s Orca Whales breeding program due to pressure from the global community. The theme park has come under fire in recent years regarding their unethical treatment of animals, who are confined to small tanks and forced to work and train for the patrons’ entertainment, following the release of the 2013 CNN documentary “Blackfish.”

Palestinian woman named ‘World’s Best Teacher’ and wins $1 million award.

      Palestinian teacher Hanan Al Hroub takes out the Varkey Foundation’s Global Teacher Prize, which is the Nobel Prize equivalent of the teaching world. Growing up in a refugee camp near Bethlehem, Ms Al Hroub now works with refugee pupils who have been traumatised by violence, using an approach using play that is aimed at resolving violence and tension. She says she will spend the prize money on supporting her students. OF COURSE SHE WILL.

91 year-old French woman awarded PhD that took 30 years to complete.

Look at Colette. What a cutie. But she’s not just good looks; this week she became one of the oldest people in France to complete a PhD. The 91 year-old began her thesis over THIRTY years ago, but her persistence has finally paid off. Long game, Colette. Nice one. She became interested in a PhD after she retired in 1983. Normally, a PhD in France is written in three years, but Bourlier was “an extremely atypical” student, said her professor. “It took a bit of time to write because I took breaks,” said Bourlier.

39 year-old Tracey Warshal from Georgia, USA was in the checkout line in Aldi when the gentleman in front of her had forgotten his wallet. Warshal paid for his items, totaling at around $7, and wished the man a Merry Christmas.

Months later, a $10,000 donation had been made in Tracey’s name to the Piedmont Cancer Foundation, where Tracey works as a scheduling coordinator. How did he know to track her down and make the donation to that particular organisation? Tracey was wearing a Piedmont t-shirt during the brief encounter at Aldi.

The money will help patients with treatments, medication, and even small personal expenses, like parking tickets and transportation.

“If you’re able to do a small gesture for somebody, just do it,” says Warshal, “It could make a world of difference”

This seventh-grade teacher in Louisiana slays Beyoncé to help her students master geometry.

Ciera Paul, a seventh-grade teacher at ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy in New Orleans, casually transforms into Beyoncé during maths class. This teacher/creative genius remixes the lyrics to Beyonce’s newest hit ‘Formation’ to teach her kids about the properties of a circle, in both English AND Spanish. Inclusive, engaging and educational, there’s an important life lesson in this: if you want to slay, always be Beyoncé.

And the kids? They take A’s home in their bags, swag.
