The fourth season of reality television series Gogglebox is set to launch this week and we couldn’t be more excited.
Gogglebox is the show where you watch people watch television. In theory, it should be awful but there is something truly captivating about it.
Listen to Gogglebox starIsabelle Silbery tell The Binge hosts Laura Brodnik and Tiffany Dunk what goes on behind the scenes of the show.
Isabelle, 31, stars alongside her mother, Kerry, 63 and grandmother Emily, 86. Isabelle told the hosts she and her family were comfortable being placed in such a public light.
“We’re not filtered or worried about what we’re going to say. I think the best policy is to just act the way we usually would and they’ll put together what they think works,” she said.
Isabelle said that despite such comfort she and her family nearly walked out when they were asked to watch an episode of reality series franchise Real Housewives.
The 31-year-old said her grandmother Emily refused to believe the cast wasn’t stacked with actors.
“And Emmy (Emily) was just like, ‘No, I cannot do this, this is not real,’ and I said, yes it is,” she said.
“And she’s like, ‘No! They’re acting, this can’t be right.'”
Laura asked whether current participants were paid after their lack of payment last season caused such a fuss.
“They pay us the location fee to use the home which covers electricity and all the rest,” Isabelle said.
Isabelle also explained how her initial application to appear on the show was done without her mother or grandmother’s knowledge.
“When I got the call saying, ‘we’d be interested in meeting you,’ I was like, oh no, I have to tell mum and Emmy,” she said.
Gogglebox premieres tonight, at 7.30PM on Foxtel’s The Lifestyle Channel and tomorrow at 9:00PM on Channel Ten.
