Of all the things on my 2026 beauty bingo card, Go-To Skincare launching into haircare wasn't one of them.

Over the last year, the beloved brand founded by Aussie author, journalist and entrepreneur Zoë Foster Blake has been slowly expanding into different beauty and beauty-adjacent categories.

What started as a tight edit of no-fuss skincare has grown to include active serums and eye creams, moisturisers for different skin types, body care and fragrances, makeup primers, blushes and lip balms, sleep aids and supplements.

And now, a range of three peach-coloured haircare products — a pre-wash scalp exfoliant, a wash-out hair mask, and a leave-in hair oil — that promise to deliver healthy hair for all hair types (including textured, curly and coily hair), without fading your colour.

That's a key selling point; the brand conducted a clinical study of 10 colour-treated hair tresses after 12 wash/treatment cycles to be able to claim the products not only maintain colour vibrancy, but also help reduce colour fade.

And honestly? I didn't have high expectations.

Not because Go-To doesn't make great products, but because I'm a picky hair customer. My hair doesn't mind affordable supermarket shampoos here and there, but my heart loves more expensive salon brands like Virtue, Kérastase and Christophe Robin.

But egg on me because, plot twist, my hair looked and felt silky soft after using the range for the first time.

That said, there's a bit to discuss here because this isn't just another hair launch.

Firstly, Go-To is a skincare brand. Their primary expertise is in skin, so why would you choose these hair products over ones from haircare brands that specialise in it?

Then there's the price. Sure, every product sits under $50, but they're closer in price to salon haircare brands than they are to supermarket ones.

Now, a few caveats about my hair concerns so you can see how it might compare to yours:

  • I have long, fine hair that I wash three times a week.
  • You'll never catch me air-drying my hair; I blow dry it after every wash and run a straightener through the top layers most mornings to smooth frizz.
  • I don't colour my hair, but my main concern is damage and split ends.
  • I am prone to a flaky scalp, especially at the front of my part line and the base of my skull.

Enough chat! Keep scrolling for my full Go-To hair review, including the products I would (and wouldn't) spend my own money on. At the time of publishing, I've only had the products for a few days, so this review is more first impressions than long-term results.

Go-To Rapid Scalp Exfoliant, $45.

What the brand says:

  • This pre-wash chemical scalp treatment regulates oil production and balances, clarifies and refreshes the scalp.
  • Contains BHAs salicylic acid and willow bark extract to break down oil and clogged hair follicles, and AHAs lactic acid, glycolic acid and mandelic acid to exfoliate the surface of your scalp.
  • Willowherb extract and other hydrators are there to help maintain your scalp's microbiome (aka your scalp skin barrier), and quinoa extract to boost shine and protect against heat and humidity.
  • Clinically proven to maintain colour vibrancy and reduce colour fade by 47 per cent.

My Go-To scalp exfoliant review:

Scalp care is a seemingly nefarious haircare step I'll always go to bat for. Straight up, I'm obsessed with the squeezy tube packaging and fine nozzle applicator. It makes applying the product to dry hair really easy.

A little goes a long way; I like to start at my middle part and apply in sections before flipping my head over and massaging the product all over the scalp. The gel texture feels cooling on the scalp, and the scent is super fresh. Because it's a chemical exfoliant, you'll need to let it sit for three to five minutes before rinsing it out. Follow with your usual shampoo, and voilà!

This scalp exfoliant left my scalp feeling clean and fresh. No tingling, no gritty scrub bits left behind, no flakes.

Would I personally buy it? Yes — it's just as good as other similarly-priced chemical scalp exfoliants I've tried, but the packaging and mess-free texture won me over. I'll be using this interchangeably with my all-time favourite Christophe Robin scalp scrub.

Go-To Very Luxe Hair Mask, $49.

What the brand says:

  • A deeply replenishing hair treatment that "rivals the salon" to restore bounce, shine and moisture to dry and damaged hair.
  • Contains a peptide complex for smoother, thicker-looking, more manageable hair, along with hydrators like glycerin to help tackle frizz.
  • Also formulated with nourishing shea and mango butters rich in lipids and fatty acids, and antioxidant-rich buriti and prickly pear oils.
  • Safe for keratin-treated hair, also clinically proven to protect against colour fade, preserve colour vibrancy, and reduce colour fade by up to 26 per cent.

My Go-To hair mask review:

It says it in the name, but this really does look and feel like a luxurious treatment. The rose gold mirrored tube looks fancy AF and I reckon it'd last you a good couple of months if you're only using it once a week.

The mask has an ultra-thick texture that melts down into the hair as you apply it, and a subtle rose scent. The brand recommends leaving it on for three to five minutes; I reckon I managed two minutes before running out of things to do in the shower.

Would I personally buy it? No — it's lovely, but it didn't wow me. I prefer to invest in scalp products and shampoos, and save on conditioners and masks.

Go-To Hair Hero, $45.

What the brand says:

  • A styling and treatment hair oil that promises smoothness, shine, and manageability for softer hair, without any residue weighing it down.
  • Contains a blend of buriti and algae oil to smooth the hair fibre, enhance shine and improve hair condition, along with dimethicone, a silicone-based ingredient responsible for the product's silky texture.
  • Clinically proven to protect against heat damage, leave hair 22 per cent stronger after heat styling, and reduce colour fade by 40 per cent.

My Go-To hair oil review:

If you only try one Go-To hair product, make it the oil. First up, I love that it comes in a frosted glass, lockable pump packaging. You can see how much you've got left, and it won't leak all through your toiletries bag.

The scent smells exactly like the nostalgic Go-To Face Hero face oil, and it has the same golden colour, too. I also really appreciate the Goldilocks-style consistency. It's not too light like a serum, but not as heavy or thick as some more affordable hair oils. I added two pumps to damp hair before blow-drying and one pump to dry hair after styling for a smooth, glossy finish.

The fact that this doubles as your heat protectant is such a win! Plus, I'm a big fan of the decision to add silicone into the formula. I love the feeling of really clean, touchably soft hair that slips through your fingers, and that's what this silicone-based product delivers.

Would I personally buy it? Yes — this might be the best alternative for my beloved (and criminally expensive) $118 Kérastase Ultime Elixir I've tried.
