Your favourite new TV show has just dropped on Netflix.

Excuse me, but we have your plans for this weekend sorted.

The much-anticipated Netflix series GLOW has just dropped, so grab yourself some M&Ms and a big warm blanket, because you’re in for a bloody fantastic few days.

LISTEN: Entertainment Editor Laura Brodnik and Head of News Gemma Garkut discuss Netflix’s newest hit on The Binge. Post continues below.

Before it’s even premiered, Rotten Tomatoes has rated the series 94 per cent, meaning that they simply cannot wait to see it. And it’s not hard to understand why.

GLOW is a brand new based-on-a-true-story comedy-drama series set in the 1980s, about the ‘Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’.

But hear me out.

Jenji Kohan, the creator of Orange is the New Black, is the executive producer of GLOW, and a number of OITNB writers and producers have worked on the new series, as well as producers from Weeds and Nurse Jackie.

It’s been dubbed the new Orange is the New Black. And if there’s one thing we know for sure about this team, it’s that they know how to write gritty, dynamic female characters.

Firstly, the cast is overwhelmingly female. The diversity is palpable from the trailer, with women of all different races and sizes.

Alison Brie (Mad Men, Community)  plays the protagonist, Ruth Wilder, an out of work actress who, simply, just isn't very good.

Her only option seems to be to join the women's professional wrestling circuit, where she meets a number of other struggling actresses.

Entertainment Editor Laura Brodnik, who has had a sneak peek of the series, said on Mamamia's TV podcast, The Binge, "I think this is going to be one of my favourite shows of the year. It's wonderfully written and the character arcs are quite addictive to watch. I can't believe it's take so long to get another immense cast of women leading their own TV show."

Similar to OITNB the back stories of each of the characters comes out over time, making for a profoundly intriguing story.

We. Can't. Wait.
