He said he would never marry again, but it seems The George has changed his mind.

It is being widely reported that George Clooney, 52, is engaged to his girlfriend, Amal Alamuddin, 36, and there are no denials coming out of his camp.

After the couple were seen at dinner in LA twice this week with Amal sporting a large rock on that finger, the rumour mill went into overdrive that they've been celebrating an engagement, and now a source has confirmed it to People magazine, who are generally reliable on such matters.

The pair have been dating since October, and earlier this year went on a trip together to Tanzania and the Seychelles.

George was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989-1993. 'I won't get married again, because I wasn't very good at it,' he famously said in 1995.

So who is this woman who has convinced George that matrimony is worth another go? Amal is a barrister who specialises in human rights and international law. She was born in Lebanon, educated in New York and now lives and works in London. She's fluent in French, Arabic and English. Amal also once represented Julian Assange. And Julia Gillard follows her on Twitter (or at least, she did, until Amal deleted her account after starting to date The George). So, you know, just your average girl next door.

George's rep will only say that he "does not comment on personal matters".
