Game of Thrones fans are convinced there's a major spoiler in this photo.

Winter has come in Australia, but the new season of Game of Thrones is still on its way.

Fortunately, a juicy new fan theory has emerged that should keep us all sated for… well, a few days at least.

You might have seen Entertainment Weekly‘s most recent cover on your internet travels of late. The magazine gave fans the House Stark reunion they’ve been waiting for (sob) in a series of happy family snaps.

Look how happy they are!

It’s almost enough to distract you from the memory of Rickon’s horrid death last season… almost.

You’re probably having a lot of thoughts as you gaze at these photos (they’re all so grown up! I barely recognise Jon Snow when he smiles! Please don’t let any more of these kids die! I still can’t believe Rickon ran in a straight line!), but there’s a key detail you might have overlooked.

And fans are convinced it’s a clue as to which major character will die next.

Listen: The Binge walks us through everything we know about the upcoming season. (Post continues after audio.)

The detail in question is the fancy-lookin’ sword in Arya’s hilt.

If you’ve been paying close (like, extremely close) attention throughout all six seasons of Game of Thrones you might recognise it.

That’s because the distinctive Valyrian steel blade doesn’t belong to Arya – it’s Littlefinger’s.

(Don’t worry, I totally didn’t pick up on that, either. Note to self: pay closer attention.)

Of course, the good folk of Reddit were right on the pulse, and have written a handy breakdown of the dagger’s travels throughout the storyline — and what it means for it to now be in the teen assassin’s possession.

“If Arya now has the dagger, she would have to either steal it from [Littlefinger] or kill him and then take it,” one Reddit explains.

Handy reminder from season six: Littlefinger is now at Winterfell with Sansa and Jon, with Arya was seemingly on her way to join the rest of the gang after gleefully running a blade across Walder Frey’s neck and cooking his sons into a pie.

Listen: Catch up on all this week’s big TV news on The Binge podcast. (Post continues.)

“We see her sneaking around indoors in the trailer and looking under furniture, it is possible she could have found it in Baelish’s room in Winterfell,” the fan adds.

Sure, she could have ‘innocently stumbled on’ the blade. Then again, when has Arya ever shied away from the chance to murder someone who’s double-crossed her family?

What do you think? Do you have any theories of your own for the upcoming season?
