Ariel Winter's unexpected response to a fan's wildly unrealistic photoshop job.

When Ariel Winter came across an image of herself that was photoshopped to give her larger breasts, a narrower waist, and wider hips, she could have chosen to be outraged.

She could have been offended that after speaking openly about her decision to have a breast reduction, a choice she made because of the neck and back pain her 32F breasts were causing her, someone had thought it was appropriate to digitally alter her body to a more curvy shape.

But instead, the 18-year-old Modern Family star re-posted the image on her Instagram, with the caption: ”I don’t know who made this of me but….yaaaassss.’

I don’t know who made this of me but….yaaaassss ????????????????????????

From the age of 15, Winter was forced to tape down her breasts for her sitcom role as Alex Dunphy. Last June, she had her breasts reduced to a 34D, and told Glamour magazine that in addition to the physical pain her breasts caused her, they also attracted unwanted sexual attention and made it hard to find clothes that fit.

Winter’s Instagram post seems to be the latest in a long string of body positive messages from the actress. By re-posting the photoshopped image, the actress is either showing she’s still a fan of curves, despite her surgery, or making fun of the person who photoshopped her. We’re not sure which. But either way, to me, she appears to be poking fun at the culture of photoshop — and taking ownership of it.

She’s argued before that women’s bodies are not objects on display in order to gain the approval of others, and she’s called out misogyny and shaming when it comes to the way people talk about women’s bodies.

Let’s hope that the young star continues to rise above the comments and images about her body which will inevitably follow her throughout her career, and that role models like Winter will make the world a little easier for the women that follow them.
