Emma Freedman speaks frankly about being sacked by Today.

No matter how bubbly you appear on the tv: being unexpected fired is always going to hurt.

Former Today presenter Emma Freedman had been expecting a promotion when she received a surprising phone call from her agent: she was being axed from the job she had given her heart and soul to.

Now with a new radio gig, she has spoken frankly about how she feels about being let go from Channel 9.

And this time there was #nofilter.

“I just cried all day. I didn’t get out of bed for a few days. It’s pretty gut wrenching … I put a lot of myself into that job and maybe that’s a lesson learned to not be so personally invested in something,” Emma told news.com.au.

“People say it’s just a contract not being renewed but I put everything into that (job),” the 26-year-old revealed. “I gave up my weekends for five years, I worked early hours, up at 4am. I loved it, I put a lot of myself into it.”

But the disappointment hasn’t held her back for long. Emma recently began co-hosting 2dayFM’s The Scoopla Show alongside Jules Lund- and by all accounts she’s kicking ass, with Southern Cross Austereo boss Dave Cameron calling her a “knockout new radio talent”.

“It’s so true everything happens for a reason. I look back and think maybe I did need to leave for new opportunities and was getting a bit bored.”

Previously, Mamamia wrote…

“I’m always wanting to do more and get out on the road, so I’m pretty excited about stepping up on Today.”

Those were the words of Today Show host Emma Freedman speaking to News Corp just seven days ago. At that time, the 25-year-old weather girl and sports presenter was unaware that in less than a week her career with Channel Nine would be ended.

The young TV presenter also spoke of her excitement at taking on an expanded role over the Christmas and New Year period as she was due to be moved from Weekend Today to the breakfast Today Show.

“I always view it as a really positive experience to develop my skills and get better at what I do. I’m young and I want to be around for a long time, and in TV you have to earn your stripes,” she said.

“Life is really good at the moment — I love what I do and I’m really happy.”

But in a twist that shocked even Emma, whose contract with the network is due to expire at the end of next month, she was informed she would be let go on Friday afternoon as Nine Network executives decided not to renew her contract for 2015.

The move has also left many of the rising star’s colleagues dumbfounded.

A Channel Nine spokesman confirmed the move, stating that “Emma is no longer doing Weekend Today Weather”.

News Limited report that no replacement has been named yet with an ‘insider’ saying that Nine will replace Emma from their current stock of weather presenters and reporters.

“We’re not going out to find a new Emma. At this point there isn’t a name,” the ‘source’ said.

It’s a decision that has disappointed Emma’s loyal fan-base, with many taking to Twitter today to share their outrage at the decision.

Among her most vocal supporters has been her father, racing identity, Lee Freedman, who tweeted the following:

Others were quick to follow suit…

But this doesn’t seem to have gotten Emma down. The presenter, who is well known for her good humour, intelligence and aptitude for sports coverage, said that she was looking forward to a new adventure.

All the best, Emma. No doubt you’ll find a new home for your smarts and good humour soon.
