The story behind fashion blogger Elle Ferguson's engagement ring is even more beautiful than the ring itself.

‘Tis the season of engagements and fashion blogger Elle Ferguson has shared news of her own.

Her partner of just under two years, former AFL footballer for Greater Western Sydney Joel Patfull, proposed on Wednesday at the pair’s favourite beach.

“When the man of your dreams proposes with the most incredible ring handmade by your beautiful sister… ,” she captioned the photo of the pair holding hands on Instagram.

But if you thought the 5.01 carat oval diamond was beautiful, the story behind it is even more precious.

The diamond ring was made by Ferguson’s jewellery designer sister Lucie of Baby Anything and features a very special tribute to the siblings’ mother Kim, who passed away from cancer in 2015.

Here we are mum, amongst the beautiful greenery of Hamilton island. Where we swam from pebble beach out into the big blue without the recommended stinger suits because we thought we already had such bad luck surely the stingers would stay out of our way and they did. Perhaps because you were a heavenly mermaid just visiting Elle and I for this lifetime. She told the Daily Mail Australia Patfull asked for help in designing the ring after requesting Elle’s hand in marriage.

“I set one Aquamarine stone in the centre at the bottom among the diamonds as that is our mother’s birthstone and I wanted to make sure she was with Elle on the special day and throughout her life,” she said.

“The Aquamarine was the colour of our mum’s eyes and also the water at Wategos Beach where Joel proposed, so it all tied in beautifully.”

While she was responsible for creating the engagement ring, she said she wouldn’t be doing the wedding band saying Elle had always said if she had an engagement ring, she wouldn’t need one.

“She actually joked to me once that all Joel would need was a piece of string for her ring and she would be happy, but I know now she is happy for the upgrade!” she said.

Ferguson, who was named Cosmopolitan Woman of the Year and is the magazine’s current cover girl, has over 600,000 Instagram followers and is best known for being half of They All Hate Us, a fashion inspiration blog started with her best friend Tash Sefton.
